The stats indicate the animus against illegal aliens is a consensus issue that cuts across the political spectrum. Amazingly, liberals, conservatives, Pubbies and Dims, and those in between, are equally disgusted at the Mexican-flag waving illegals demanding the rest of us subsidize their every whim.

These illegal jokers are lawbreakers, and are actually demanding "rights" they are not entitled to.

Sorry, senor, ain't gonna happen.

The sooner we get these people out of our country the better.

The flyer circulated by the Democratic Party at illegals' recent rallies.

This is a no-brainer. I am a legal resident of Japan. I am not an immigrant, I fully expect to eventually return to the United States to live and work.

Ask me how I feel about illegal aliens in Japan, or about Americans who have no appreciation of Japanese culture of law coming to Japan and committing crimes.

Japanese immigration laws are stringent and they are not afraid to deport people who fail to follow the rules.

Of course, Japan is an island, which imposes a sharp limitation on the number of illegals that can penetrate the system -- there are some even still -- but make no mistake, they do a lot better than we do at keeping the riff-raff out.

Am I missing something according to your logic?

The illegal invaders are already getting every right we have to offer and some rights you and I and every CITIZEN can't get.

They even have the right to shut down our ports, railroads, wall street, businesses, schools, our streets, our cities.

They DEMAND and they get, if we demand we get nothing.

We HAVE to pay taxes, they don't have to. We commit a crime we are arrested for felony, they don't.

They can sneak in and out of our country thru our swinging door policy at the border and they are REWARDED!

And what is this insanity called?? IMMIGRATION, AMNESTY, FASTTRACK to Citizenship!!

And that my friend is the unfortunate situation America finds itself in and are helpless to do anything about because we are at the mercy of our elected officials and the lobbyists, and Bill Gates!!!!!!

Politicians are just not very bright sometimes.
The fact is, on many issues the public doesn't have a problem unless it's in their face. Likewise the illegals issue wasn't a priority as long as the illegals kept it quiet. Now they are all over the news, and people who wouldn't ordinarily pay attention are sitting up and going "hey, wait a minute- that's alot of people". Also, I'm sure many people are seeing photos and video of streams of illegals trekking across the border, for the first time- and it's going to shock them.
What the Dems also aren't thinking about, is no legal immigrant in their right mind is going to be happy about millions getting a free ride to legal status.

If our elected representative cave to the illegal aliens and give into their demands this great nation of ours is headed for the same fate as France.

By that I mean every group that does not like what is being discussed in the halls of congress and on the senate floor will head for the streets with massive destruction not marches but destruction just like what is going on in France over the right to a life time job.

They will use mob force to intimidate the elected officials of the country to vote their way.

America bless God!

What these statistics suggest to me is that both of the "centrist" parties are not trusted by the electorate on this issue, the Democrats slightly less so than the Republicans. And for good reason, don't you think? Both party leaderships seem to be fixated on how to make the uncontrolled immigration work best for them, rather than how to enforce the laws. So what reason is there to trust either of them? Very little, it seems to me.

Here is a set of policies that will change this problem:
1. Seal the borders with fences & manpower as necessary
2. Seal the ports and airports against illegal entry
3. Hold all "detained" illegals until deported
4. Re incarcerate all felony convicted illegals into Federal Prisons to be deported at the end of sentence
5. Establish the means to prevent the transfer of funds not associated with international trade out of the country without approval
6. Establish the means to prevent illegals from voting
7. Punish those who employ illegals with large fines
8. No more anchor babies

Problem will go away

I wish I was as sure as you are that something positive will happen regarding this shamnesty.

Yesterday, President Bush made a speech regarding how Harry Reid stopped the vote and this lead to the "thwarting of the will of the American people". Bush is either lying or doesn't know the will of the American people.

I think this is prime example of just how wrong "moderates" are - on both sides of the aisle. Liberals may want socialist policies, but at least they want the socialists to be Americans. And the Conservatives want Americans to run their own lives, safe and under the rule of law.

Unprincipled moderates spend so much time trying to please everybody they forget who they work for: AMERICANS.

..........voters are starting to tilt toward get-tough Republicans on immigration - and those massive protest rallies by illegal aliens waving flags have backfired.

Republicans are now more trusted on immigration - 37%trust them on the issue, while just 31% trust Democrats...........

All I can say regarding the Republican leadership on this issue is:

THE "NEW AMERICAN"

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on.
