..........voters are starting to tilt toward get-tough Republicans on immigration - and those massive protest rallies by illegal aliens waving flags have backfired.
Republicans are now more trusted on immigration - 37%trust them on the issue, while just 31% trust Democrats...........
That marks a Democratic slide from 10 days earlier, when both parties were equally trusted on the hot issue.
Thirty-eight percent said they trusted Republicans and 37 percent trusted Democrats. The Democrats lost ground, said pollster Scott Rasmussen. I suspect theres backlash against the rallies, and the Democrats appear to be against enforcement.
.............57 percent of Americans want a barrier built along the Mexican border, even though only 42 percent think it would really cut illegal immigration.

Amen BUMP!
Yep------we need to stay on top of this-----spread the word.
And we, as Americans, need to stop patronizing businesses using or fostering illegal labor.
All of the demonstration talk reveals the mindset of invasion rather than immigration-----and The Plan by illegals to overthrow the US government. I guess some pols don't mind presiding at the giveaway. Here's what we have to look forward to:
Reconquista Armando Navarro 'Ethnic Studies' Professor at the University of California, Riverside Anti-American, Fifth-Column Menace. "Ladies and Gentlemen, what this means (the immigration bill) is a transfer of power, it means control, and it is the young people, the people who are now moving to develop an agenda for the twenty first century they are going to be in a position to really make the promise of what the Chicano movement was all about in terms of self-determination, in terms of empowerment, even in the terms of an Aztlan...."
Bill gate hires illegals? Or what brought him in?
However, on December 16, 2005, there were 191 House Democrats who voted to oppose House Republican efforts to reduce the crime of unlawful presence in the United States from a felony to a misdemeanor. Instead, they voted to make felons out of all of those who remain in our country illegally.
While we are disappointed with the House Democrats lack of compassion and the continued efforts by Senator Reid to block action on immigration legislation so that Congress can proceed to conference, it remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony.
So the dems want it to remain a felony but the Pubs want it a misdemeanor. I go with the dems on this one.
Mr Gates went to Washington to lobby for immigrants.
"WASHINGTON --When the Senate comes back to work next week, it is scheduled to take up the issue of immigration. And that is what brought Bill Gates to Washington for a rare visit last week.
The Microsoft billionaire does not love this capital, but he decided to add his personal voice to his Washington office's lobbying effort to expand the number of foreign-born computer scientists allowed to work in this country under a special program known as H1B visas.
In an interview sandwiched between his meetings on Capitol Hill, Gates told me that the "high-skills immigration issue is by far the No. 1 thing" on the Washington agenda for Microsoft and for the electronics industry generally. "This is gigantic for us."
Since autumn 2003, Congress has limited the number of people admitted annually on H1B visas to 65,000. To qualify for such a visa, a person must have at least a bachelor's degree and specialized knowledge and a job offer from an American employer. The visa is generally good for six years, with the possibility of applying for extensions.
So great is the demand for such skills in the burgeoning high-tech world that in August 2005, the last of the visas available for fiscal 2006 were issued. That means a 14-month shutdown of the program, until October of this year.
Meanwhile, the number of computer science majors is "falling fast" in America. Students are merely responding to the reality of the marketplace, and don't want to pursue an expensive degree for several years which will quickly become worthless. Then industry brazenly complains that there aren't enough American IT workers and it must have immigrants, even though it created the situation. "

No he doesn't appear to be hiring illegals, my reference was just to what the rich and powerful can accomplish.
Sean covered this yesterday. dims were against illegal immigration in 2005. Did you hear hildebeast state, "I have always been against illegal immigration. What we need is for employers to STOP hiring these people."
Then hildebeast did a 180 turn last week, claiming that illegals were the "backbone of our economy". You are too easily taken in by their crap. dims are only for whatever futhers there power at any given time.
dims were "AGAINST ILLEGAL ALIENS, BEFORE THEY WERE FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS"!
LLS
My gut instinct was right on.
You were inferring that Gates favors ILLEGAL immigration.
The article you posted indicates he is lobbying for more LEGAL immigration.
You are doing the same thing all those protestors are trying to do, confuse the issue between what is legal and what is illegal.
NOPE, you are wrong and you are putting words in my mouth I DEFINITELY did NOT say! Just as all pro illegals do to further their cause. Reread my post I said very clearly.........
I said those that have power and money like Bill Gates and the lobbyists are the ones who go to Washington and can influence the govt in ways we cannot!
I never ever once inferred or said Gates hired illegals!
Those are YOUR words not mine! be that as it may, NO AMNESTY!!
PASS HR 4437!
Exactly so. And as the law stands at the moment, we legally allow in some 68,000 skilled people from everywhere else. My understanding could be fuzzy, but this is how it works: You get a green card, work permit and have to have a job lined up. Your employer basically has to sponsor you, and when time's up, you get the boot back to wherever you came from. But if you're unskilled and illegal, whoopee!
This simply isn't going to happen.
The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act had provisions to "punish" employers who hired illegals. It hasn't been enforced. It is never going to BE enforced.
The number of companies employing illegals is probably many times the number of the companies that did so back at the end of the eighties. Tenfold?
Fearless prediction: no matter what kind of "employer sanctions" might be written into any _new_ legislation, they are there only for "public consumption" (that means to pander to folks like yourself) and will NEVER be subject to actual enforcement.
I will go so far as to say it is this administration's "unspoken policy" to NOT enforce such laws. After all, the illegals are doing the jobs that ordinary Americans won't do, right? Those jobs _still_ have to "get done".
And when the Democrats get to power in January of 2009, do you think President Clinton is going to direct her administration to "enforce" them, and alienate all those soon-to-be [Democratic] voters?
Time and time again, I read here on FreeRepublic comments that run exactly as yours: that is to say, "punish those who employ illegals, and the illegals will go home". And time and time again, I just shake my head. You're dreamin'....

Isn't McCain a piece of work. He was on C-Span two weeks ago, speaking in Iowa or some such place. Sounding like Mr. Conservative, Mr. Nice Guy, your next door neighbor. You have to admit, he tailors his speeches to the audience at hand, and he's good at it. He's also raised an amazing amount of money and hired quite a few ex-Bush campaign workers. The MSM loves him to death, even Ellen Ratner, (which should tell us something.) He's a real Manchurian candidate. Frightening. Plus his arms are way too short. (He looks like a sock puppet.)
What happens with Iran will energize voters in November, for good or ill.
Bingo, and sobering, too.
Here's your original post, everything is about illegals:
The illegal invaders are already getting every right we have to offer and some rights you and I and every CITIZEN can't get.
They even have the right to shut down our ports, railroads, wall street, businesses, schools, our streets, our cities.
They DEMAND and they get, if we demand we get nothing.
We HAVE to pay taxes, they don't have to. We commit a crime we are arrested for felony, they don't.
They can sneak in and out of our country thru our swinging door policy at the border and they are REWARDED!
And what is this insanity called?? IMMIGRATION, AMNESTY, FASTTRACK to Citizenship!!
And that my friend is the unfortunate situation America finds itself in and are helpless to do anything about because we are at the mercy of our elected officials and the lobbyists, and Bill Gates!!!!!!
I suspect an agenda to confuse legal immigration with illegal invasion.
I said those that have power and money like Bill Gates and the lobbyists are the ones who go to Washington and can influence the govt in ways we cannot!
Where do you get the words illegal and legal in that statement?
Where do you get that out of your original post #7?
