There is only one group of people with less credibility on the immigration issue than Washington politicians. It is the illegal immigrants protesting violations of their "rights" while parading the Mexican flag and disrespecting the one symbolizing the great nation from which they're demanding favors.
I'm not talking about all demonstrators in every city in which a march occurred. Some were reportedly peaceful and even patriotic. But the hostility of some protestors did more to galvanize apathetic Americans into demanding action on immigration than all the previous alarm-warnings from politicians and pundits combined.
Nothing awakens the sleeping giant like direct threats to her sovereignty and security. And it was hard not to feel violated by the outrageous spectacle of people making demands on the very system they have circumvented instead of demonstrating some humility, if not contrition.
On the other hand, it's not hard to understand their attitude, given our shameful negligence concerning the integrity of our border and the rule of law. We hardly have clean hands either, considering our enforcement laxity and our Faustian bargain to reap the fruit of the poisonous tree by exploiting the cheap labor illegals provide. We don't even have enough respect for our laws to call violators "illegals," insisting on the euphemism undocumented workers.

Sounds like it would take awhile to read with all the looking up.
Not really. I highlight the word, then I have a small dictionary icon in the bottom tray, that comes up as fast I click it. Gives a very quick and fast definition. I do that with almost everything I read on the computer. When reading a book, I always have the computer dictionary at arms reach!
I have the Webster Dictionary button up on my toolbar with other links and use it like you do. If I'm writing Freepmail I can highlight some word and click on the dictionary button. Very handy.
I also have links to two of my image servers which makes it fast getting there.
"Technically - the "conservative" position..."
and technically the conservative position is to not spend money like it grows on trees.
we live in strange times.

I've been off line for a few days. I'm out of synch.
Feel free to grab anything I post, or link it.
I wished I had that as a huge sign in front of McPain's office this afternoon!
(would have gone great with the heads of lettuce that were all over the place, LMAO!!)
That's an interesting defense of the invasion. Americans need to just accept the millions of robberies, rapes and murders.
"or the ones too timid to come here illegally."
Not only do you shill for illegals but you think less of those that respect our laws and sovereignty enough to try to come legally. Amazing.
It needs to be overhauled.
I've learned in not too short an order that this topic is so sensitive on many levels...that nobody's mind or position is going to be changed.
Sorry, but I disagree with you.
Good idea :)
NO, I'm not Ann, but wish I was!
look at the number of this post: 650 something. This is a MAJOR issue. Did you hear the author of this article's brother, Rush Limbaugh, this morning? He said in essence that Republican candidates for office are hearing from their constituents to go easy on the illegal issue because it would impact their home "help".
HEY RUSH: you've just solidfied everything thats ever been said that you are a Republican hack. THE GRASS ROOTS OF THE GOP IS NOT FOR ILLEGALS, MAYBE SOME OF YOUR FRIENDS WITH "help" AT HOME, BUT NOT ME OR ANYONE I KNOW. WHY NOT LISTEN TO YOUR BROTHER, HE KNOWS WHERE WE ARE, YOU ARE A HAS BEEN.
And if if it really came down to $50 an hour labor to pick vegetables, it would be automated. The reason it's not is the growers can get helotes to do it now. And dump the social costs on the rest of us.
I can't visualize any produce farmer paying $50.00/hr to pick lettuce. You're right about automation though. $50.00 per hour would raise the cost of lettuce exponentially out of the question.
The comment made was a dumb, Senator John McCain shooting from the hip Freudian slip, that I'm sure he now deeply regrets.
