Why don't we protest?
Townhall.com ^ | 4/11/06 | Mary Grabar

While thousands of illegal aliens and their supporters converge in major American cities waving Mexican flags and signs in Spanish, polls show the vast majority of Americans opposed to their demands.

So why don’t we protest? Why not simply show our strength and wave the American flag and signs in English?

For one thing, we’re keeping the country going. We can’t afford to lose our jobs. We are neither the elites of the alternate universes of the academy and major media, nor are we “artists” supported by tax dollars or trust funds. We are not the beneficiaries of the tax-payer supported largesse that these elites are agitating for on behalf of the illegals.

-snip-

But while the mobs continue to run wild, we will continue to worship God. We will drop our hard-earned dollars into the plate. We will adopt abandoned children. We will volunteer in our communities. We will support missionaries who preach the Good News about freedom, self-determination, and a sense of self that comes not from attention-getting displays of contempt for the hard work of others, but from a relationship with a loving God and a loving respect for one’s neighbor.

So while those out there protesting on behalf of the latest group to which they can attach to make themselves look good, relive the rush they and their parents experienced in the 1960s, the rest of us will continue to work and keep the country going. We will shake our heads as we watch them on the evening news. And like those quiet hard workers who voted in a new Republican administration with Richard Nixon, we will bide our time and remember those disgusting displays of contempt for this country by lawbreakers and their leaders.

Lame excuse, used over and over again by conservatives too lazy to get off their duffs.

I bet you wouldn't think that if the Dr. you were needing was in the streets protesting while you or a family member was dying.

We don't have a laundry list of leftist organizations paying for us to protest and we don't have employers willing to give us a day off to protest their illegal labor.

There are other ways to protest.

How about a letter-writing campaign to Congress and the White House? How about surveys in your area of the country? How about organizing town hall meetings that are aimed at fixing the issue of illegal immigrants in your town or city? How about writing to the editorial pages in your town?

Etc., there are more ways than one to express your opinion. In fact, the mass protests won't miss your body marching in your nearest city. But, the other attempts that I have mentioned actually leave a paper trail. And this may spur other people on, pushing them to action.

Demonstrative protesting is not the "American" way. Instead we make phone calls, write letters, send e-mail and vote. Also we use the power of our wallets to contribute to those politicians who believe what we believe and govern accordingly.

Those out protesting might call attention to themselves, but it's the silent majority that makes our government tick and the smart politicians know it.

The Congress and the President know how Conservatives feel.

It matters not because as soon as the majority of the public (who are not political as we are) see illegals being rounded up on TV, and hear the sob stories, for months and months, they will cave.

They will fold, in a heartbeat, the will feel exactly how they are told to feel by the MSM.

And pols know this.

Yuppers! You know what we should do? Compile a list of NGOs that issue these grants for the people to be paid to protest. These NGOs aren't the easiest to track info on. But finding out the companies that DONATE to them could be very interesting.

Good point! Because we only have one doctor in Virginia! [yawn]

It's an incredibly lame, overused excuse to make lazy conservatives feel better about their inaction.

let me tell you how stupid I am.
When I saw the first protest, I thoght it was people like myself protesting to send them back.
I really think the barn door has been left open way too long. There is no easy answer now, thanks to out gutless politicians.

That being said, something HAS to be done and soon.
I say enforec the laws on the books and fine anyone (Very Heavy) who hires anyone who does not have a LEGAL right to be here.

Please, they are not going to be rounded up to go to the ovens. They have a homeland to go to, they have overwhelming numbers so they can go flex their muscle in mexico and bring changes in their own goverment.

All they have shown us with these protests is they are not the helpless people they want us to think. It's time for them to go home and uprise there.

LOL, please, you don't have to tell me, but the majority of American's would cave, guaranteed.

We are an Oprah nation now, why else do Americans beg for low gas prices but refuse to drill? Beg for gov help for college, health, housing, ect, then complain about high prices of college and health ins, complain about taxes and deficits?

The majority of Americans are idiots, and feel what the MSM tells them to feel.

Don't know about where you live but most of us are limited to the Dr. we can go to. Can't just go where-ever the crap you want on any given day. Besides your calling for ALL people to march into the streets to show our muscle.

You get the point I'm making tho, you just like to attack those who cannot take it to the streets. Police need to be working, health care workers need to be working, planes need to fly, RR running trucks hauling and on and on.

The world won't stop if hollywood doesn't get their toilets cleaned for a day. The mexicans have shown just how well we can get along without them.
