PETITION TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES

We, the undersigned, citizens of the United States of America, petition you, the members of the Senate and House of Representatives, to state that we, under no circumstances, want you to pass any law containing any provisions whatsoever for guest worker/amnesty for the millions of lawbreaking illegal aliens in our midst.

On the contrary, we ask you to pass a law that a) erects an impenetrable barrier along the entire southern border of the United States, from Brownsville, Texas to Imperial Beach, California and b) makes it a felony to knowingly hire an illegal alien to do any kind of work and c) makes the penalty for conviction of the aforesaid felony a mandatory sentence of at least one year imprisonment.

James Lileks' Newhouse column from last week: "The entire illegal immigration problem isn't that difficult. Just annex Mexico. Upside: lots of oil at popular prices. Downside: Once the Mexicans are Americans, they will presumably be unwilling to put up drywall or pick tomatoes, since those are 'jobs Americans will not do.'"

This may sound crazy but why don't we enforce the existing immigration laws by deporting anyone who is here illegally and prosecuting and fining anyone who hires illegals! We don't need more immigration laws!

OK, too harsh. One year imprisonment? C'mon, quit freaking out.

1) A fortified and staffed wall - no more entry

2) No more anchor babies/automatic citizenship

3) Decent and compassionate methods for dealing with illegal immigrants - no splitting up families. Registration for all undocumented people. Automatic deportation for criminals. Automatic deportation for those that do not register. Methods to help with citizenship for those that wish to follow the law.

I know the amnesty crowd disagrees, but we MUST enact step one immediately or we are just treading water. And we simply cannot deport the 25 million (My estimate) illegals in our country right now. We need them to register, be able to work, agree to obey our laws.

Totally agree. Enforce the existing laws. Indict any congress critter that pressures ICE/INS to not enforce it.

I agree. I would like to see a few things - English as the official language, dropping the law that makes anyone who is born in this country a citizen, and being an illegal alien a felony.

Our e-mails, letters and phone calls to the politicians, corrupt though they may be, can make a difference.

Because the United States is now ruled by anyone who can whip up an intimidating mob.

I agree. A wall is the only acceptable solution. Once we have to chase them around the desert it's too late -- the money meter is going and it never stops.

Build the wall. Reinforce as needed.

I say take the illegals that are found here, and send them to the border, put up a tent city and let THEM build that freakin wall.

Enforcing laws is a first step to helping the immigration problem. But imo, it will take that, a wall or fence strong enough to stop them from coming over, more border patrol, more technology and cracking down on the reason they come here in the first place. No entitlements, no benefits, no rights. Illegals don't deserve them.

Methods to help with citizenship for those that wish to follow the law.

That's a reward for lawbreaking. If they want to stay, then I'd require them sign a confession to a felony offense, which would go into their criminal record. They'd also sign away any right to apply for welfare benefits of any kind, they'd pay a heavy fine, and pay back taxes. They'd also be on probation, the violation of which would result in at least 10 years imprisonment or immediate deportation. I'd consider lifting these restrictions and expunging the felony if the illegal passed a basic english and US history test.

Since most people have to work for a living it's dificult to organize the hundreds of thousands to counter the illegal protests.

If he could get a few million signatures on the petition it would show what the people really think, not as effective as thousands marching in the streets but better than nothing.
