I have noticed a pattern over the years, when inconsiderate hunters cause problems for landowners the NO TRESPASSING signs go up. Years ago I knew of very few posted properties, now most are posted. I could tell you personal horror stories with hunters that would amaze you. I support hunting but many hunters do not understand that it is a privilege to hunt private property and not a right. It is a shame that a few can ruin it for everyone but there is no way for a landowner to sort out the good from the bad.

So is that a threat? Sounds like you could not be trusted with a gun. Actually there is so much public land where I hunt that I could walk for days on it without going on private land. I just have to drive a lot further to hunt than when I was younger.

And yes there are criminals in all segments of society. I'm just not willing to condemn someone for shooting across a land line automatically. Did he know he was shooting on to private property? Did he shoot past a no trespassing sign? Did he know the other hunter was there? I doubt it. Maybe the guy was wrong, but maybe the landowner could have been more visible to other hunters and have avoided this confrontation.
If I could afford to buy hunting land, I would. I guess I spent what most people would buy hunting land with on Christian education for my kids.
Be Well,

"I could go on and on but YOU and YOURS are part of the problem."

ROFLMAO! Yeah, Right. Landowners are the problem. I've been hunting & fishing since I was a kid. I know an "idiot" with a gun when I see one with my own eyes nearly wing my husband!

And yes, the same goes for drunk or sleepy or drugged or inattentive drivers yackin' on cellphones and others that endanger my life due to their personal irresponsibility.

We live in a society and there are rules whether you're hunting or driving your car...or trespassing on others' property as you are implying you do.

For starters, it's polite to PING the person you're talking about when you talk about them on a thread.

"I'm just not willing to condemn someone for shooting across a land line automatically. Did he know he was shooting on to private property? Did he shoot past a no trespassing sign? Did he know the other hunter was there? I doubt it. Maybe the guy was wrong, but maybe the landowner could have been more visible to other hunters and have avoided this confrontation."

We were RIGHT there. We were 100 yards from the guy, tops. We were in BLAZE ORANGE because we were hunting, too, on our land. He was shooting at a deer that was BEHIND us. He was STANDING at the barbed wire fenceline while he was firing.

Now, if that's not an idiot breaking all sorts of property use laws, I don't know what you'd call him.

Sorry, now that I know the particulars I would have to agree that this was a slob hunter. I also should have pinged you.
No, I do not trespass without permission and have no compassion for those who do, I usually hunt public land where there are many square miles that you can hunt. In Michigan, the burden is on the landowner to properly post their property if it adjoins public land.
I still hate those signs and do not like people implying that there is a disproportionate number of "slob" hunters in the woods. This characterization is one of the things that anti-hunters use to fight against the sport. It also leads to a decline in hunting and hunter numbers which also is detrimental to hunting.

Thank you for your service and sacrifices for our country. My comment was in jest, of course.
