If Minutemen Are Vigilantes, What Do You Call 500,000 Illegal Aliens Demanding Rights?

When the Minutemen set up shop at the Arizona border last year to call attention to the illegal alien loophole in US Homeland Security, President Bush foolishly chided these brave patriots by calling them vigilantes. Although chagrined at being deserted by the man who has the constitutional responsibility and authority to defend our borders, the Minutemen dug in their heels and persisted. And persisted.
Their Yankee determination to do the right thing was rewarded when President Bush finally sent additional border patrol agents to Arizona. Even the Mexican government was motivated to pay greater attention, at least temporarily, because of the due diligence of heroic Minutemen.
Before the Minuteman took their courageous stand, open border advocates and anti-American liberals insisted it was impossible to stop illegal immigration. Best to just accept reality, learn Spanish, and switch to rice and beans as food stables, according to the leftists and Hispanic racists.
Thank God, the Minutemen PROVED illegal aliens CAN be stopped, thereby delivering a great victory on behalf of all American citizens.

I said electable. Anyone who says we ought to "bomb Mecca" doesn't have a hope in hell. And if you really think he does, I have no respect for your political analysis skills. If you are truly "old military," you know that it is folly to act on what you "wish" would happen instead of cold reality, and cold reality is that NO ONE is going to "bomb Mecca."
As for the Muslims, all I can tell you is that the Muslims I see at my University are pretty peaceful. But your analysis is flawed, because outsiders coming in, esp. from Arab countries (I know, because I hear the stories) are scrutinized with a fine tooth comb for any whiff of terrorist connections. INS is far from perfect, but I am MORE concerned with un-accounted Muslims coming across from Me-hee-co than with the known Muslims coming from friendly states like UAE or Turkey.

Was it Franklin and said something about having a country if we could keep it?I believe it was a "republic" if we can keep it but you've got the salient point.

Pt 1 - my mistake, you sure sounded like one
Pt 2 - irrelevant, unless you allow your feelings to influence how you post, which you clearly do
Pt 3 - we agree, but that wasn't the point of my original post
Pt 4 - irrelevant to whether one is allowed to have an opinion
Good day.

THE single best post I have EVER seen at Free Republic! (Were you one of our Founders in a previous life? ;-)
God Bless you Joanie for your extraordinary eloquence in conveying exactly how many of us feel.
Just lurking these days, however I wish I could ping ALL of America to your magnificent post...
Hope you don't mind my borrowing some of your wisdom as my tagline:
"Prudence is not called for in the current political climate. Courage is" -- I'd suggest others to do the same as our clarion call to our fellow patriots...
More super tagline material from your essay:
"We are not calling for a revolution. We are begging our leadership to lead, so as to avoid one."

Stop the interminable debates about how to deal with those illegal immigrants who have broken the law and are working in the U.S., and obtaining education, health care, court costs, legal representation, etc. at no cost, while the American taxpayer must pay obscenely burdensome taxes to obtain the same for his family. Excellent post, joanie. It's clear that many of our "elected ones" have loyalties only to the hispanic vote. We are nothing to them. They must be REPLACED!

I read these articles and posts and sit and cry at what is being allowed to happen to this country.
I'm with you. I am just so dumbfounded at all of this that I don't know what to think or do. What's happening is simply unbelievable. I have three children- what kind of country will they even inherit? It's like we're not even a country anymore- just erase the borders and let anyone from anywhere come at will, have more rights and perks than citizens once had, vote and interfere in our political system. It is truly depressing.

Indirectly, he did. The President was talking about the Minutemen when he made this statement:
"I'm against vigilantes in the United States of America," Pres. Bush said at a joint press conference. "I'm for enforcing the law in a rational way."

Thanks for the ping, Liberator.
I've stayed out of the immigration threads because, as a Canadian, I didn't think it was my place to comment.
I will however repeat what I said on a chat thread last night.
I frankly can't figure out how it's gotten this far.
I'm dumbfounded that your government is not doing one of it's most important jobs.
Canada was like that, and will be for a long time; I never thought I would see this in the US.
God, Bless America!

Well it is not like we have never fought a war with the Mexicans over SW USA.
The horde of illegal aliens might eventually crossover, become the advance expeditionary force.
I think they will be revealed for what they are by their actions and the recent demonstration's. Taking down the US flag and so on are just the prelude IMO.
I hope people wake up soon. But we are in America you know, and most of the time America is asleep at the wheel till there is a crisis sprung upon them.

They usually are, up untill the point where they blow something up.
