We seem to be focused on the Middle East and the immigration problem but in my arrogant opinion, Chavez is a threat economically, (although Venezuelan oil is second rate heavy crude) and politically.

I don't know about defense, but maybe there's something there.....
Defense sounds like too active of a role.

U.S. Envoy's Car Pelted in VenezuelaAmusing how history repeats. The same thing happened, during a state visit, to Vice President Richard Nixon, about 50 years ago. You'd think the infantile local talent would have learned to control at least some of their internal organs by now, but apparently not...

You hit the nail on the head. Whenever this clown's domestic numbers go down (no controversy lately, they must be going down) he reverts to beating his anti-US drum. Kind of reminds me of Schroeder's and Chirac's tactics, and you see where that got them.

Put it in your tag line for a while. Something like: "Former Screen name: 'MikeInIraq'"

Yeah, and I read the Russians sold them "rebuilt" AK 47's, so the Venezuelans have filed a protest with their new "good friends."

I think Latin America will just need to stew in its old, naive view of Socialism, and continue to suffer the results until they finally chuck it up for good...They can't have us to blame if they vote in the fools and their economies tank once again...

I was reading an article the other day about how he had acquired about 20 new Mil-17 helos and was proud of the fact that each could drop 30 paratroopers.
He boosted that with such equipment he could easily defeat any invasion from the US.

To: usmcobra
LOL
So he thinks he can move around a short battalion (just forget that we wouldn't have air superiority for a minute) against our guys?
LOL
A reinforced company of our guys would make mincemeat of them.

I don't know.
It happened on a weekend where I had a wedding and a funeral to attend so I wasn't on FR.

If this develops, we might see a bit of a spike in the oil prices out there.... I just went by a Mobil station here in coastal Massachusetts is $2.79-2.89-$2.99 full service The Gulf station I buy at is $2.69-2.79-$2.89 full service. Any up-tick in price will put the fuel over $3.00 in my area. - tom
