Justice for immigrants
Dodge City Daily Globe ^ | April 8 2006 | Charlene Scott

Posted on 04/08/2006 11:56:10 AM PDT by aft_lizard

An Ecumenical Day focusing on justice for immigrants will draw U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback and local religious leaders from Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian churches to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on April 18.

The large gathering that will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. will be open to the general public. Pre-registration is required by Monday.

A Kansas Republican, Brownback joined Democrats as part of a bipartisan coalition on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voting recently to clear the way for 11 million illegal aliens to seek U.S. citizenship.

The committee voted against controversial proposed criminal penalties for illegal immigrants and any U.S. citizens who assist them, a proposal in a House-approved bill that a Houston Catholic newspaper said "shames the United States."

Brownback will discuss the immigration issue during the Ecumenical Day, and United Methodist Bishop Scott Jones will engage the senator in a conversation relating to points made in the Oct. 18, 2005, Interfaith Statement of Immigration issued by a national interfaith network.

Other speakers will include Catholic Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore of the Diocese of Dodge City; the Rev. Don Owens, Presbyterian General Presbyter; Episcopal Bishop James Adams Jr.; and the Rev. John Kreidler, representing Lutheran Bishop Gerald Mansholt.

The Ecumenical Day will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m., followed by a welcome and gathering prayer. "Voices of Immigrants" will be presented by several immigrants who will tell their stories, among them former Garden City Mayor and present City Commissioner Juana "Janie" Perkins.

Well humm how about we just let everybody in the world who wants to come into the USA? Is that just for US citizens or Legal Aliens? Where do we draw the line, 10 million, 20 million 100 million 500 million?

Where is the Justice for the millions who would like to come to the USA but didn't break the law to get here? They should get first crack at any guest worker jobs (if we really need them) not those who broke the law but those who didn't!..start our guest worker program right! Crap amnesty is like giving more welfare money to welfare cheats than to those who don't cheat...

U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback

Once thought of as a possible candidate in 2008, recently nixed those rumors by coming down against America in the illegal immigration debate.

Congratulations! The competition is fierce, but the judges feel confident in proclaiming you the winner of The Dumbest Post of the Day Award.

Spoken like a true FROBL.

Did you read the winning post?

The idiot was actually serious about taking children away from their parents and putting them up for adoption.

I don't care who you are, that's pretty dumb.

Sheesh! I just noticed you're one of those "September, 2004" signups.

A DU troll, or a Kerry supporter, who's been laying low waiting for a chance to undermine Republicans and Bush.

I'll be watching......

Personally, I'd deport the kids too. If they are US citizens, they can return when they turn 18.

"So now anybody who supports a balanced approach to immigration is "a fan of illegals"?"

A balanced approach is sending them home peacefully. A comprimise is building only 700 miles of barrier. Amnesty is surrender of our right to self-governance, our right to expatriation, and our sovereign soil to foreign invaders.
