The Senate yesterday overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to secure the country's porous borders after years of warning voters of the dire need to do so. All but two Democrats and 20 Republicans voted against considering the border security-only bill, the last of three immigration votes in recent days. It was the only proposal that did not contain a guest-worker provision, and which many said would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens already in the country. "I think politics got in front of policy on this issue," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who voted against the bill.

I'm shocked! SHOCKED, I say! Never in a million years could I have seen this coming. *Rolleyes*
Could somebody post the 20 Republicans that voted against a security only bill?
"I think politics got in front of policy on this issue," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who voted against the bill.
When Ted Kennedy talks about "politics" what he really means is the "taxpayers". The Congress, both Dems and Repubs, think that they are so superior to the rest of us.
This whole thing just infuriates me!!
Every now and again, we the people become the leaders and the politicians become the followers. There's a need for a lot more of that, these days.
P.S. I have an early primary for Congress in the 11th District of North Carolina, 2 May, less than a month away. Please visit my website in the tagline, and help however you can.

If they can't protect the American people and the Republic--throw 'em out and elect Congressmen who can--and will! There's plenty of talent among the American people!
Throw this worthless gang of self-serving deadbeats out of Washington!
Elect a Congress that will protect the U.S.A. and the American people!
Just enforce the laws that are on the books.
Punish law violators who hire illegals. Prosecute them and force them to play by the rules.
No welfare, no free medical care and no schools for illegals.
Take away the incentive to come here by enforcing the laws already on the books.
Here's a suggestion - treat those illegals flooding across our Southern border the same way the Mexicans treat the Guatemalens flooding across their Southern border - aggresively patrol the border and throw back those that get through!
To get that, we'll need a third party. With members who will agree to sign a contract to abide by the platform that they were elected on or resign.
All but two Democrats and 20 Republicans voted against considering the border security-only bill
So, there were 20 Republicans who voted to allow a vote on this bill. The rest thumbed their noses at the majority of the American people who want increased border security.
You want the list of those with their thumbs in theor noses, not the 20.
"Border Security Bill" is one way of putting it. I think "Amnesty Bill" would be more descriptive.
I can find the bill here under "Border Security" but they haven't updated the voting record that I could find.

Exactly!! Why can't the Feds understand that?
Gee, what a surprise for a bunch of pandering poseur cowards who only give a damn about perpetuating their turn at the public teet. God forbid they do anything that might possibly indicate commitment to anything other than their own pet pork or some meaningless horse crap.
Senate kills border security bill?
I didn't know they were working on a border security bill. The only thing I've heard stressed in the senate over the last few weeks was how to keep the current crop of illegals and how to encourage more to come over.
" We can't let up on this now that they're going into recess."
You are right. I read a comment on one of the threads that this is laid to rest until after the 2006 elections, and then.... I think we are going to have to have a continuing, concerted effort reminding those willing to sell American citizenship that we will NOT ALLOW IT.
Including the felons, eh, guys?
Neither the McKennedy, nor the limp-Frist bill addressed border security in any real way. Both were thinly-veiled attempts at amnesty.
