Gov. Rendell holds a lopsided lead over Republican challenger Lynn Swann among black voters, according to an independent poll released yesterday.
The Democratic incumbent continues to hold a double-digit lead among 1,354 registered voters, who favored him over the Pro Football Hall-of-Famer 47 percent to 37 percent, the Quinnipiac University poll found.
Among a smaller sample of 451 black voters, 74 percent supported Rendell, who is white. Swann, who is in line to become the first African American to be nominated for Pennsylvania governor by either major party, was preferred by 12 percent. Another 12 percent were undecided.
The telephone poll was conducted between March 28 and Monday. The overall sampling error margin was plus or minus three percentage points. The margin among the black voters' sample was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
This is the Ass. Press whistling past the graveyard in the dark. It's got to be embarrassing to be the propaganda arm of Dean's DNC. You have to write garbage like this and make it believable.
A Dem only getting 74 percent of the black vote means he is in trouble.

The bigger poll of "registered voters" shows Rendell ahead by 47%-37% (which sounds to me as if Swann is doing well, considering it's still early and he's running against an incumbent).
I hope some PA Freepers will chime in.
Looks like it's Philadelphia vs the rest of PA. The only real high-black area of the whole state is Philly. The next biggest city is Pittsburgh, which might be like 25% black compared to 50% or so in Philadelphia.
Mr. Swann, write off the welfare state that is Philadelphia -- they're gonna vote for sugar-daddy Rendell anyway. Concentrate on the real part of Pennsylvania.
It's the white voters who will make the difference anyway. JC Watts didn't win with black votes.
He doesn't need to win the black vote, but simply get enough black voters and he will be ok. I think he will get enough black support to beat Rendell.
Rassmusen just had this race a 46-44 in favor of Swann. Not to worry. Polls in April don't count, only the one in November. It is just the sound of the msm whistling past the graveyard.

Exactly. 74 percent Dem-voting, among blacks, compares to 11 percent by GWB in 2000 and 2004. It's huge.
I haven't been following this race. Has Swan been talking about that dangerous "personal responsibility" or something?

Non-Black Voters preferred Swann to Rendell by a margin of 49% to 34%!!!!!
No other poll has Rendell up ten. BS.
He's doing better than Republicans usually do among blacks - that's the real story. Instead it is spun into a negative.
What about occult racism?
Will the blacks who decide to vote outside the Democrat box be enough to offset the whites who answer nicely to the pollsters but draw back when in the voting booth, or don't make an effort to vote?
Don't believe a word of it. Black voters will listen to Swann and if they have a lick of sense, they'll like what they hear.
