In reconciliatory interview with Britain's Times newspaper, Palestinian Foreign Minister al-Zahar hints at Hamas willingness to recognize Israel, expresses willingness to meet with Western leaders
Hamas is prepared to discuss the concept of a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict that would recognize Israel's right to exist, the Palestinian foreign minister said in comments published on Friday.
Mahmoud al-Zahar, who is also a senior Hamas leader, said he wanted clarification on the two-state proposal from the "Quartet" Of Middle East mediators - the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia.
Hamas, which swept parliamentary elections in January, is sworn to destroy Israel. But Western states say they will cut off aid to the Palestinians unless Hamas renounces violence, recognizes Israel and abides by interim peace agreements.
Al-Zahar's reconciliatory message comes following recent reports regarding comments made by the foreign minister to PA foreign ministry officials, rejecting Israel's existence and calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state from "river to sea."
"Let us speak about what is the meaning of the two-state solution," Zahar said in an interview with Britain's Times newspaper. "We will ask them what is their concept concerning the two-state solution.
"What is the concept in the Quartet about the two-state solution and on what basis?"
Earlier this week, Zahar denied referring to a two-state solution to the conflict in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Zahar said his government would examine the Quartet's response and may gauge Palestinian voters' opinions.
"We are going to discuss that in the legislative council and after that we may need (to ask) the general attitudes of our people," he told the Times, according to a transcript of the interview on the paper's website.
Addressing a question about contact with Western countries, Zahar said he was willing to meet with international leaders.
"I am ready to go to Europe to the countries that are ready to accept us. If France is ready to receive us, tomorrow I am going to go. I have information that Norway can make contact with the new government. So it depends on the others. It's not our decision," he said.
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Wonder if this'll be enough to get the EU to send more money?
he wanted clarification on the two-state proposal from the "Quartet" Of Middle East mediators -
Yeah, sure. Like there has been some change in that for the past 20 years or so.
Let 'em survive on food donations from Egypt. Arab nations smuggle guns hidden in with beans and flour. Those huge sacks are bulging with weapons and ammunition rather than food. Let 'em eat gunpowder. 'Nuff said.
"discuss"
This is typical islamic battle tactic.
Negotiate truce while you use the time to redeploy.
He wants 2 states.
2 Palestinian states.
I always wonder what the Arabic version says....
Just lying to the infidels.
Muslims are allowed to lie to the rest of the world. Our IDIOT leaders will miss this FACT and fall to their lies.
TAQIYYA (sometimes spelled TAQQIYYA or TAQIYA) is the duty of Muslims to lie about the beliefs, methods and objectives of Islam to non-Muslims. [TAQIYYA_1, TAQIYYA_2, TAQIYYA_3, TAQQIYA_4 , TAQIYA_5, TAQIYYA_6].
Taqiyya (bad faith, deceit, contempt for the truth, false promises, evasion, deceptive moderation and crocodile tears for terrorist victims) negates any attempt at interfaith dialogue between Islam and other belief systems, because we infidels never know whether we're being told a pack of lies.
In Islam it's OK to lie and deceive Kafirs (infidels) because Islam is in a permanent state of war with all non-Muslims and deception is a legitimate tactic. The word or promise of a Muslim to a Kafir counts for nothing in the eyes of Allah.
So taqiyya means that the only time you can be sure that a Mullah is telling the truth is when he says he's lying
This is Hamas two-state solution, "East Palestine and West Palestine."
The truest version is always the Arabic verbal one. With an over 50% illiteracy rate, the vermin can risk putting the 'western' version in print even in Arabic.
For those Freepers who have followed this closer than I a question:
Is there really any mystery about what "The Quartets" position is? In other words, is that postion well known?
Talk is cheap.
True, the old bait and switch. We hand over money, they renege on recognizing Israel and for good measure, fire off more rockets.
I wrote at the time of Hamas's election- to some derision- that in short order the World will pretty much begin to see Hamas's moderation and recognition of Israel in every tick and sneeze.
I was wrong in that I gave it at least six months to begin.
