Dobbs: Senate bill Raises Serious Questions
CNN ^ | 4/6/06 | Lou Dobbs

Posted on 04/06/2006 7:32:49 PM PDT by Dr. Scarpetta

Ultimately, this Senate immigration deal appears to fail the first test: Border Security. Because as I've said, and as many others agree, without first securing our borders, not even the best intentions will result in resolution of our illegal alien crisis.

The test for effective reform is straightforward: Congress and the president cannot reform immigration if the federal government cannot control it, and the federal government cannot control immigration unless it first secures our borders and our ports.

Any legislation that fails to meet those tests will only worsen what is already a crisis.

What if Congress is underestimating the number of illegal aliens by half? A Bear Stearns study last year projects there are as many as 20 million illegal aliens living in the United States, depressing wages for U.S. citizens and draining local, state and federal budgets of much-needed funds for education, health care and social services.

I thought she was with Kyl and the other senators against this bill? She certainly sounded like it this morning on Fox when she adamantly supported it dying on the vine.

Does anyone even know for sure? At least in Arizona they can't vote unless they were registered prior to passage of our prop200. Every state needs to get a prop 200 version of their own on the ballot for November... now THAT would make an impression in Washington, just as all the gay marriage ammendments did last election... When our senators ignore us we go to the mat (so to speak) and the mat is the proposition.

Tancredo was a high school teacher who became so disgusted when anyone with a hispanic name had to take an English learning class -- even if they spoke perfect English, that he ran for office to do something about this craziness in our system.... he is very fiscally conservative, too...

Time to send a message--stay home on Election Day!

Ah, doesn't this send a message that what they're doing is ok?

How about voting them out of office? Especially in the upcoming primaries.

See my post #64 -- get a proposition on the ballot for your election this November similar to our prop 200 -- which among other things makes everyone show ID to vote. We got a good bill passed in 04 and it even passed the muster with the 9th Circuit -- now if only our Governor would quit waffling.

"I thought she was with Kyl and the other senators against this bill? She certainly sounded like it this morning on Fox when she adamantly supported it dying on the vine."

You would never have thought so in talking with her staffers....either locally or in DC.

Evidently she decided to get "religion" when her phones, e-mails and fax machines were getting swamped.

Too little, too late.

Time to send a message--stay home on Election Day! And don't anyone dare give me that lame, "Well, you don't want to elect a Democrat" argument, because that is the very thing that got us into this insurmountable mess in the first place!!!

I never thought I'd agree with that point of view, but I understand it now.

Lou Dobbs is one guy who "gets it" on illegal immigration and jobs offshoring.

I've been watching him lately, and he's OUTRAGED about illegal immigration.

He's been the most courageous and forthright of ALL the TV media journalists.

Yes he has, and his ratings have increased.
