Dobbs: Senate bill Raises Serious Questions
CNN ^ | 4/6/06 | Lou Dobbs

Posted on 04/06/2006 7:32:49 PM PDT by Dr. Scarpetta

Ultimately, this Senate immigration deal appears to fail the first test: Border Security. Because as I've said, and as many others agree, without first securing our borders, not even the best intentions will result in resolution of our illegal alien crisis.

The test for effective reform is straightforward: Congress and the president cannot reform immigration if the federal government cannot control it, and the federal government cannot control immigration unless it first secures our borders and our ports.

Any legislation that fails to meet those tests will only worsen what is already a crisis.

What if Congress is underestimating the number of illegal aliens by half? A Bear Stearns study last year projects there are as many as 20 million illegal aliens living in the United States, depressing wages for U.S. citizens and draining local, state and federal budgets of much-needed funds for education, health care and social services.

I'm with you all the way on this one.

See my response, just prior to this one.

"The time to fight is the primaries. We need to wipe these RINOS off the map."

I've been involved in Republican politics since 1988. I can tell you that here in East Texas, the RINOs are making their move. Two weeks ago, I went to our county convention and was saddened to see just a handful of delegates.

Years ago, we had each delegate seat and each alternate seat filled. Hundreds of people attended. We had some very fiery debates, especially about pro-life issues. Now, the RINOs are taking over the party and are pushing for moderation.

For me this immigration issue is the straw that broke the camel's back. I will call and continue to all my representative and Senators until I'm on a first-name basis with their switchboard operators.

Today, Rush Limbaugh mentioned that the Hispanic population is only 6% of the total US population. It's time that the "silent majority" is silent no more.

Yes, I've been watching his long series on the illegal invasion. He's been the most courageous and forthright of ALL the TV media journalists. He rightly again brought out the fact the we are being betrayed by the special interests of our senators. They are pandering to the illegal Hispanic invaders and see them as a future voting bloc. In addition, there are Republican business interests who love the cheap labor. And the Dems want to keep the Hispanic vote and they're willing to augment the invasion to that end. Forget the fact that this invasion threatens American culture as we've known it. That school districts are facing bankruptcy; that hospitals are forced to curtail public emergency services; that 30% of the California prison inmates are illegals and this is costing tax payers in CA over $3 million per DAY; that the drug cartel is costing us billions in criminal and social damages; that we are spending billions on making our society "bi-lingual" with written and verbal versions in Spanish, as well as the enormous costs of teaching Spanish in the public schools. And all this doesn't even begin to deal with the national security danger presented by a nation unwilling to defend its own borders. You may think this is hype and alarmist but I genuinely believe we're in a dire struggle to save our own country and its culture. Do you agree?

Your rant is getting old.
You'd have to be a real assclown to "stay home" on election day if you have a good Republican to vote for, and there's plenty of good Republicans out there.

dims will give you 100 million illegals. Perhaps more, if they grant them All citizenship (preregistered as dims of course). There are Republicans in the House and Senate that are demanding NO AMNESTY... NO CITIZENSHIP... and deportation. There are no dims signed on to that path. None!

I think that the House may give us Border Security in committee.

I think we should all write in "Tancredo" in the primaries. Do you think our party would get the message?

I got through Frist's Nashville office around 5:30 PM Central tonight. It must be completely filled. Their offices closed at 5:00 Central.

It's good to hear that we're letting them know what they think.

I'll be calling again in the early AM.

Not sure where Rush got the 6% Hispanic figure. We were recently told that the Hispanics now outnumber African_Americans in the USA, and African-Americans account for 15%. It's possible that the 6% refers to illegal Hispanics.

I'm a fairly new conservative, and I haven't been involved in the primaries before. I have no excuse not to be now. I think we're all fighting mad. It's simply a matter of channeling that anger in productive ways.

I've given up on writing and e-mailing. I'm with you: call them until you know them. Seems to be the best way of making your voice heard.

I've been saying on this site for years that I will never vote for, or in any way support, a "moderate" (liberal) Republican. That said, I certainly WILL vote for every conservative or mostly conservative Republican on the ballot.

It's the crybaby one-note Johnnies around here who need to take a pill.

Time to send a message--stay home on Election Day! And don't anyone dare give me that lame, "Well, you don't want to elect a Democrat" argument, because that is the very thing that got us into this insurmountable mess in the first place!!!

Yeah, that's right - All the good that has come from Ronald Reagan and GWB in office is worthless because we have a 40 year in the making immigration problem still -

What nonsense.

Not sure where Rush got the 6% Hispanic figure.

Maybe he was referring to THIS column.

....here are a few facts: in 2004 the Hispanic vote was a modest 6 percent of the voters. As the electoral statistician Steve Sailer has repeatedly pointed out it is growing at the still more modest rate of 0.6 percent every presidential election cycle. And almost exactly half of the Hispanic vote is concentrated in two states — Republican Texas and Democratic California — that are dependably loyal in their voting habits and so unlikely to sway national elections.

It's a pretty informative column and welll worth the read. The basic message of the column is that the Hispanic vote is definitely NOT something that the Republicans should worry about if they want to act on serious border control.

Maybe...though even while on the same side of this issue...I'm not a fan of Tancredo. To put it mildly. :-)

I'd probably write-in Hayworth or Sessions instead.

So many on the right are being handled like puppets by the MSM (regarding this immigration issue) in their goal to see the DEM's win back Congress and the WH. One issue voters are pathetic and intellectually silly.

Not only that.....she is leading the movement to support her fellow RINO, Lincoln Chaffee and is working to defeat Laffey, his primary opponent. She has turned out to be really bad news.
