The Palestinian Authority's coffers are empty and the new government is struggling to find money to pay tens of thousands of its employees, new Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh told his Hamas-led Cabinet at its first meeting Wednesday.
Furthermore, said Haniyeh, a pledge of financial aid to the Palestinians made at last week's Arab Summit is insufficient.
"The Arab Summit decision regarding the funding is not sufficient to meet the demands of our people," Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh told a news conference. He said his government is in touch with Arab leaders "to discuss the economic problems we are facing and to propose plans to develop our economy."
At the summit, Arab nations had pledged $55 million a month in aid to the Palestinian Authority. However, Arab support in the past has rarely lived up to pledges.
Haniyeh added that new ministers need to find ways to make up for tens of millions of dollars in foreign aid the international community is expected to withhold, largely because of Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel and renounce violence.
In addition, Israel froze the transfer of tens of millions of dollars in tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinians shortly after Hamas' January election victory.

Bummer. Guess they have to put the semtex on their MasterCard now.
See what Ed Rendell has done? Oh--not that PA?
They've had how long to develop a working economy under Arafat? You'd think the Palestinians would figure out by now how much of the aid going to the Palestinian authority will not be going to them, but will rather be going to Hamas officials' mistresses, mansions, and also various and sundry infidel-slaying programs.
No, the slightly less corrupt one.
And is there a downside to this news?
Time to eat sand!!!!

This qualifies as the most satisfying story of the day IMO.
It's no big deal, they can just blame the Jews. Like they do for everything else. No point in taking responsibility themselves.

What a joke.
Didn't pallie officials promise her so many millions a year?

Remember the greenhouses and other facilities you trashed because they had been "tainted" through Jewish ownership? Don't you wish you had kept them running now?
These arrogant idiots don't deserve a sheckel. Let 'em suck it up and go to work, and maybe they'll have less time for protesting.
