What a stupid article. Men are the victims? Please. If a man and woman have sex and the woman ends up pregnant it is the responsibility of both of them to take care of the child. If a man doesn't want to pay,then use a condom or don't have sex. It is simple.

And what of the cases mentioned, where the mother puts the name of someone she HASN'T slept with on the birth certificate ???

True, but there are some vicious and greedy women out there. I know of one woman who had a young son (don't know where the father was). She started to date a police officer (very nice man, decent steady income) and convinced him to marry her and adopt her child. He did, being a decent trusting fellow, and lo and behold within 6 mos of the adoption going through she bolts. She told him she never loved him, just wanted someone to pay for her child. This man now has to support a child for 11 years that is not his.

But - If a man doesn't have sex with a woman who has a baby, and via means of perjury or fraud he has to pay child support, he is a victim of a crime. Get it?
You miss the point: MANY men are paying child support for children they didn't father, and here in Texas, once you've been recognized by the court as a child's biological father (usually by default), it's virtually impossible for the truth to "set you free" from paying support for a child who's not your responsibility.

Obviously you have never heard of a Husband Hunter.........there are cases of women engaging in oral sex, and saving what they get for getting pregnant.......happens every day.....
actually when it comes to paternity fraud it is very disturbing.
A person looses an absolute right to appeal if they do not dispute a paternity claim, EVEN IF THEY DON"T KNOW ABOUT THE CLAIM UNTIL YEARS LATER.
It does not matter the DNA comes back negative.
I think the best first step is to make a strict liability issue on paternity fraud. If the DNA comes back negative AT ANY TIME, the all child support obligations are void as a matter of law. (not voidable, VOID as if never were there)
THEN the wronged man has the right to sue the woman for recovery of fraudulently obtained money. (fraud BTW is not dischargable in bankrupcy)
This of course has nothing to do with the man who is dumb enough to believe a woman who lied about her fertility.
(of course i would even do away with the common law notion of legitimacy in marriage and allow a husband to be absolved of a child born of adultery)

Did you actually read the article? Apparently not! The article explains that many men are paying paternity for kids who are NOT theirs! (So, using a condom or not having sex won't prevent the kid, because they didn't make the kid.)

Only if he is allowed to make the decision whether she gets an abortion or not. After all, the child is his child as well.
Would you send the same advice to a woman? If you don't want to to pay, then use birth control or don't have sex?
Women have ALL the post pregnancy control in this county. Men have ZERO choices once pregnancy occurs.
This needs to change.

Here's a scenario to consider:
A 19 year old with only a high school degree marries the "man of her dreams." They agree that she will stay at home with their children and he will work. They have two children. Nine years later he asks for a divorce. He asks her and his 2yr old and 6 yr old to leave the home. He moves his girl friend in. The young mother has no resources, no job skills, no money--her name isn't even on the checking account. Furthermore, hubby hasn't even paid off the bills for the first child let alone the second one. She is now with her parents and going to school to become a nurse. Her parents and other relatives are helping her rebuild her life. Soon-to-be ex- hubby finally paid child support after several legal threats. Let's make sure we understand there are some real jerks out there and some innocent women and children who are at risk.
So if a woman has sex with multiple men she gets to pick the one who she wants to be the father regardless of whether he in fact is?
