Thank God for that!
Did they all survive? I thought 19 were on board.
Ping!
PING
I heard 17 yesterday.
i wonder if the load shifted or something. Reports indicated the engines were very load.
17 on board and they all made it.
seems that when it happened someone was reporting that there was a fire in engine 2 and they were returning for an emergency landing.
seems to have come down pretty easy and the stress of landing hard broke the fuselage.
surprised there was no fire.
The AF ought to brign out a film crew and do a major safety video of this episode. It was an absolute mircle. Plane loaded with fuel...and it didn't catch on fire. You can figure the odds over and over...and its always against you in a case like this. Every guy on board has a second life to live...in my book.
I hadn't heard there was an engine fire. This plane should be able to fly with the loss of 1 engine but maybe that wasnt the only problem. Pure speculation.
I agree that its surprising there wasnt a fire. Glad this has turned out as well as it has.
The title could be..."What to do right when everything goes wrong."
The Grace of God. I can't think of anything else that kept them alive.
Actually, one of the "experts" said it is able to fly on one engine - reassuring but I don't think I would want to put it to the test.
I have no idea whether there was an engine fire or not, that was just a report I heard shortly after it happened.
It apparently went down about 100 yards short of the runway. Pictures show gear down.
They were very lucky it didn't disintegrate or catch fire.
"one of the "experts" said it is able to fly on one engine"
Wouldn't be surprised but I'm sure it depends on the loading. If its got a tank or something inside I doubt one engine would suffice.
I once helped pick up pieces of an F16 that had gone down. Lots of pieces, lots of JP4, no fire there either.
