Unlike dykes, real women /mothers need to be smarter than their children. Sounds like Ms Dijksma could have done with a bit more education herself to understand the dynamics.

With his logic, no one should be allowed to throw away their education. No one should be allowed to be on welfare either. He is calling stay at home mothers a burden, all welfare certainly is then a burden.

My take is that you always have many, many years to use that education career-wise. But only a few years to take care of children.

For one thing, well-educated women have something special to offer their children, especialy if they home-school or otherwise take an active part in their children's education.

For another thing, most stay-at-home mothers ARE in the paid labor force for some part of their lifespan, typically either before the babies come, or after they're all grown up and have left the nest.

You can have it all... just not all at the same time...

This was similar to what the raving feminist author said on "Good Morning America" about two weeks ago, where she said EVERY woman who got married and had children was "damaging" the women's movement.

It does make sense, however. I think he's talking about higher education grants never being "paid back" to society and he thinks they should literally have to fork over the costs taxpayers have encored for educating these women who choose to use that funding and give nothing back. I believe a fair case can be made these women who have chosen this path have gotten a "free ride" while others have had to work, take out loans, etc. The gravy train should end. Seems pretty taxpayer friendly.

Basically it would convert an education grant into an education loan if the person doesn't actually make productive use of their taxpayer subsidized higher education. There are men too who will study, get a degree and never make use of that degree in that field. Perhaps any publicly funded grants they are awarded should also be converted to loans.

Their ultimate Utopian accomplishment will come when when they have, through a massive government effort, reached for the benifit of all mankind, that illusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Is milking the taxpayers for all they're worth a "traditional value" in your view?

There is nothing wrong with an educated population, in this case we're talking "highly educated" women. But when those women have their higher education paid for by tax dollars and don't move into the working world, what do the tax payers get out of the deal? Why should they pay for just a few select to be highly educated mothers and not all women? If they don't use the education, the grants should be converted to loans just like all those who couldn't get grants must carry loans as a burden of their becoming "highly educated."

This isn't about basic education which benefits all by (in theory) keeping you from turning to crime, off welfare and into a contributing member of society on some level.

So homeschooling is *throwing away my education*? I don't think so. I was a much better teacher to my kids for it and they got a much better education for it. When I finished up my degree, I hadn't even heard of homeschooling so it was not a factor in getting my degree but it sure paid dividends I didn't expect. It gave me the opportunity to better prepare my kids to be successful, productive members of society.
