Burglars will be allowed to escape without punishment under new instructions sent to all police forces. Police have been told they can let them off the threat of a court appearance and instead allow them to go with a caution. The same leniency will be shown to criminals responsible for more than 60 other different offences, ranging from arson through vandalism to sex with underage girls.
New rules sent to police chiefs by the Home Office set out how seriously various crimes should be regarded, and when offenders who admit to them should be sent home with a caution.
Some serious offences - including burglary of a shop or office, threatening to kill, actual bodily harm, and possession of Class A drugs such as heroin or cocaine - may now be dealt with by caution if police decide that would be the best approach.
And a string of crimes including common assault, threatening behaviour, sex with an underage girl or boy, and taking a car without its owner's consent, should normally be dealt with by a caution, the circular said.

Previous policies were creating a hostile work place for criminals.
If this doesn't solve the problem, homeowners may be forced to vacate their homes between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon, tuesdays and thursdays.
Crack down on those evil ones, the ones not wearing seat belts!
If you see anyone in a vehicle using a cell phone, bust them!
There are those Crimes that are Crimes only because they bring INCOME to the City, County, State and you can bet, these "safe" criminals will be prosecuted to the full extent of their pocketbook.
This story is not news, it's obvious.

Note to all
I did not read the story, since I don't dial 911 anyway, Burglers and Tresspassers do not fear the local cops, they are more worried about me, therefore I really don't care that the Cops give the crooks a pass.
(Yes I know, the story/news is not from the US)
Indeed ... and everyone should get at least one free slap to a cop.
Pathetic. The UK is going down the tubes in a hurry. What happened to the country that produced Churchill?
Absolutely Insane.
Go to the Mail site and check the comments on this story. It's a riot.

ROTFLMAO!!!!
This is no different than our government is doing. The Brits are just doing it for everyone instead of just for a preferred group. They must have consulted Bush/Kennedy/McCain/Hillary on this.
Maybe not. They would have suggested rewarding the criminals.
that's OK, it's nothing but a flesh wound... is that about it???
Blimey! The bloody loons just surrendered.
Come on criminals, come one come all to merry old England where you can break into houses and screw teenage girls.
What a country! /s
Let's not forget those eeeeevvvviiiillll smokers.
We'll start the itinerary by vandalizing a house, then we'll break into it. If there are underage kids around we'll have sex with them, then burn the house down. If no kids are around we'll just burn the house down.
This is going to be so fun. We can provoke the homeowner into trying to defend himself and watch him get locked up.
This is a NON-Smoking tour so smokers need not sign up. We can't have any of those disgusting people on the tour.
Is it the end of the world yet cause it sure feels like it.
For criminals over 18, who admit offences ranked at the third level of seriousness, the instruction is: "Normally charge but a simple caution may be appropriate if first offence".
If they always steal at the same level they are therefore always sent home with a caution.
>>I lived an worked in Saudi Arabia for more than 13 years. We never locked a house or car door whilst we were there. Reason - if you steal they chop your hand off. If you repeat the offence they chop the other one off too. Horrible - yes; effective - very. At least those who respected the law felt safe which is more than we can say for the UK now.

Now, I understand why the Brits had their firearms taken away. I think having a tiger for a house cat might be one solution.
True. I checked out the Dubai website not long ago after reading something right here on FR and noticed how they glowingly mentioned the low crime rate and that goods waiting to be shipped out of port or recently offloaded could sit on the docks with no worries about theft and just had to laugh because I know that the reason for that was the harsh way that criminals are dealt with there even though the website never mentioned it. (hey, nice run on sentence)
