McCain: Not Enough Guest-Worker Backing

Supporters of a guest worker program that would let illegal immigrants stay in the United States said Tuesday they don't have enough Senate votes to overcome objections from conservatives who oppose the measure on grounds it amounts to amnesty.
As negotiators worked on a compromise to let those who have been here longest remain, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said a majority in the 100- member Senate support his and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's proposal to provide green cards to illegal immigrants after they've worked in the U.S. for six years.

And what happens if no vote for amnesty is passed? Do the illegals get rounded up and kicked out? Do the borders get secured so no more can enter the country?
RINOs and liberals keep importing them till they have enough votes to pass it. Unless we conservatives start kicking RINOs out of office.

"Good. That is the cost, the only estimate at present in Congress, who would have to come up with the program. Is there another estimate?"
$10 billion to build an Israeli style fence along the entire Mexican border. This is double what it's costing the Israelis per mile but I think it's about right considering U.S. bureaucracy.
$2 billion per year for 20 thousand more enforcement agents.
Considering the way our drunken sailor congress spends our money, not really a large sum.

There won't be a flood across our borders The flood has already happened. The levees are breached. Time for cleanup.

We had a flood at our house last year, insurance paid for the rehab. The company our insurance contacted called me to make an appointment to start. I told them if you use illegals don't bother, I will find someone else. The lady at the construction company told me they do not use illegals. The reason is that when they do insurance rehabs people are usually still in their homes. They can't/won't take on the responsibility of using illegals in a situation like that.
Apparently companies working for insurance companies are the ONLY ones not using illegals here in Calif.

You are the one waving the number around like it was holy writ.
Providing a source for validation is common practice for those who give out reputable information.
Those who don't, don't.

90% are not working in registered businesses. How are you going to find the 90% who are so outside the system that they can't be ID'd? 12-30 million.
...seizure of the property of a landlord who rents to them.
...the cutting off of federal funds to a school that educates them.
...the loss of medicare and medicaid funds to a hospital that treats them.
Even if you could work off the books, would you stay in a country where you would be homeless, have no access to health care, and no access to education?

Right. However, Congress first had to consider rounding up all of them and the cost of doing that. Then, they went to the next cheaper alternative, which is the pseudo-amnesty program. Then there is the structural problem of anchor babies.

Do the illegals get rounded up and kicked out? Nope, the status quo leads to the same inevitable conclusion as amnesty. Not only are they not paying taxes and contributing to the general welfare at the same rate as the rest of us, but they are being heavily subsized as well, so illegals have a distinct advantage in having as many kids as possible. Therefore, 1 illegal can easily represent 2-3 US born citizens (ie 4-6 kids per couple).
Illegals have been a dominant force in LA now for 20+ years. As some advocates state, if they are to mirror prior waves of immigration in terms of assimilation, education, income, etc., how come we haven't seen it yet? On the contrary, LA looks more like Mexico in terms of poverty, filth and general deprivation than other parts of the US.

It's a thought. There might be some additional costs, such as a number of armed agents to make the arrests.
