SAN FRANCISCO - In what may be the first legal action of its kind in California, a Cameron Park transgender person is alleging that co-workers and supervisors harassed her and tried to force her out of her job after she switched genders.
In an interview Monday, Danielle Ryan described the hostile work environment that she claims developed at the South Natomas office of the international engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff. A computer technology specialist, Ryan said incidents began 15 months ago, after she announced that she considered herself a woman and would start wearing women's clothing to work.
Ryan, 44, contends that for much of last year, co-workers bumped into her or made derogatory comments. She said she was eventually told by company officials that she could either work three more months and then leave the company, or work part time at a reduced wage.
"It was obvious they were pushing me out the door, while the environment was very hostile," Ryan said. "I would complain, numerous times ... and nothing would ever be done."
Judy Cooper, a New York-based spokeswoman for Parsons, said the firm had not yet been served with legal papers and therefore could not comment.
Ryan's lawsuit is based on a 2003 statute that amended the California Fair Employment and Housing Act to prohibit job discrimination on the basis of gender or perceived gender.
Several lawsuits by transgender people alleging they've been denied new jobs have been filed since the state statute was enacted, said Chris Daly, director of the Transgender Law Center in San Francisco. But Ryan may be the first California plaintiff to have transitioned to another gender while employed at the same job, . . .

The clients and other cleaning crew said that the trans-person never completed their work. The clients and other cleaning crew reported that they (the trans-person) would always take a 1/2 hr break for a 3 hr shift!
Needless to say, I fired that trans-person who then threw a fit with tears, shrieking and throwing things. When I said I would call bldg security the trans-person suddenly found some self-control and exited the bldg.
These trans-person are some very weird individuals!
Danielle bears a resemblance to Tipper Gore.
Dammit Pissant! WHY do you post those pictures...gaaahhh. Now I am going to have to go to therapy or something...
LOL. You'll have lotsa company!
OOOOOOOHHHHH MYYYYYYYY.
bttt
The next step in a PC world gone mad is the complete changes in building codes world wide for a vast number of new bathrooms to accomodate the freaks who cannot decide whether to sit or stand in the loo.
Someone is probably working now on how they would be labeled.
A frind of mine had this happen in his workplace. The guys didn't have much problem with George becoming Georgette, but the females in the office were rather upset that Georgette before becoming "parts missing" wanted to use the Women's restroom. Wouldn't that be considered grounds for sexual harrassment?
I don't know about that.
The Congress has resisted adding "sexual orientation" to federal anti-discrimination laws for years. I don't think the state legislature here in Utah is going to mandate special rights for perverts.
Actually its already federalized under the EEOC, I know, I went to court on exactly the same kind of case.
While transgender people are not explicitly covered by the statute they can claim that the perception that they are female is what led to the discrimination and get into court.
All I can say is that if you have one of these people in your office document everything and be prepared for major work place disruptions. The first time the he/she wants to use the womans bathroom expect all the other women to go ballistic and that will just be the start.
From my perspective having dealt personally with this issue, is that these people crave attention and suffer form monumental low self-esteem. They hate themselves and think if I change who I am, I will feel better, but it dose not work.
When people in the work place ignore them and their personal issues they become upset from the lack of attention. Then they will start doing things to draw attention, even negative attention. Most supervisors are scared to do anything fearing they will get filed on. Then the he/she starts to gain a feeling of entitlement and may even start setting other employees up for the inevitable law suite thats coming.
We refused to settle and took it to court and won a complete victory, but it was 2 years of depositions, investigations and general workplace disruptions all so a week, perpetually adolescent brat could get the attention he so desperately craved.

I had that experience as a guy I knew years ago, in his transformation, would use the women's restroom. He heard it from me! If it had been in a workplace with this guy in the article, I sure would have been named in his suit. These people are sick and need more prayers than therapy.
All the bitch has to do is move to France.
Personnaly, I would be in favor of a National fundraising to send most of SF to France.
I'm sure the the California Labor Board or what ever regulates the labor force will see that he/she/it gets a nice reward err I mean just compensation.
I pray you are correct!
There are so called health professions that have developed over the last few years that profit by taking the sexually misguided, telling them to follow their dreams and selling them what ever goods that let them do just that. What worse is the health insurance companies are all too willing to go right along with it all.
Which bathroom does she/he use?
Either sex could claim harrassment on her/his part.
