Did McKinney's Afro Confuse Police?
Human Events Online ^ | 4 April 2006 | Amanda B. Carpenter

Today the U.S. Capitol Police asked for an arrest warrant for Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D.-Ga.) for assaulting a police officer who failed to recognize her as a member of Congress. But the larger question might be: Are the Capitol Police at fault for not recognizing her?

McKinney, whose hair is usually styled in braids, wore a traditional “afro” that day and was not wearing her lapel pin that identifies her as one of the 535 members of Congress.

When she attempted to sidestep a metal detector, as members are permitted to do, she was asked three times by a police offer to stop, but she ignored his requests.

The officer allegedly proceeded to tap her shoulder; McKinney responded by hitting the officer with her cell phone.

McKinney maintains she was “touched inappropriately” with “excessive force” and that her actions were “instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female black congresswoman.”

She held a press conference this morning in Atlanta with the Concerned Black Clergy and black state legislators at the Community Church of God, but did not address the altercation and reporters were not permitted to ask any questions at the event.

Last week she appeared at Howard University alongside Lethal Weapon’s Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte. Glover said, “She alone has stood up for issues that are important to this country and important to the world. We're not here to judge the merits of the case; we're here to support our sister.”

Irrespective of how confused police officers may have been, McKinney had NO justification for going the thump!

They might not have known who she was, but she most certainly knew who they were!

I don't think her Afro confused the police.

Stupid knows no color, it just is.

And she's soaking in it.

According to reports, she wasn't wearing the magical Congressional pin that gets people thru security w/o a search.

So, here is someone whose looks are DRAMATICALLY different that day, NOT wearing the ID Pin, trying to go thru security claiming to be a Congresswoman.

Hell, that haircut alone should be considered prima facia evidence of either a crime against humanity or a sign of severe psychosis.

IN fairness to McKinney, it is far easier for a white male portly balding middle-aged Congressman to sneak thru security unchallenged if they come in w/o their pin. I was once at a LA Lakers game, and the arena came zoomed in on a street hoodlum with earring, bandana, etc. Only when the "thug" smiled did I realized that it was Tiger Woods, and he'd just been busted in his "disguise".

I can understand why Congressmen might not want to wear a marker, in case some nut wants to target them, but they should then be willing to go through the metal detector and not look as though they have special privileges. That defeats the purpose of trying to blend in with the crowd.

With the look on her face as well, I vote for both.

Either the author is severely confused as to the definition of "afro," or I am. Cindy's new 'do isn't an afro, it's a ... I don't know what to call it, other than "just damn."

Seriously. Did Sista go to the Van de Graaf Salon?

Any bets as to whether these "Concerned Black Clergy" are concerned about unrestricted abortions?

Let's just say that Tiger's seat, and my seat, weren't in the same ZIP code in the Staples Center.

Where in the HELL is the video of this incident? This woman is clearly insane, and not qualified to have a seat in congress.
