I think that's probably what many folks do on this topic, and others as well. Sometimes comments can be a knee-jerk reaction to someone's personal experiences. We've all been there done that. I'm not saying I'm right, but I'm not wrong either. teehee ;)

I personally can't look at someone who has piercings in their nose or face.

Why do you think they get that crap in the first place? They want to set themselves aside from everyone else. Effective isn't it?

These kids think they are expressing them selves. Nothing like a horseshoe shaped ring on someone's nose to say "underachiever" to me.

We're afraid we'll get cooties.

ROFL! Gosh, that just brought a long lost memory to mind. I seem to remember years and years ago, there were some plastic toys that were called, "cooties". I think people with tattoos used to throw them at unsuspecting people. ;)

But I doubt that you could have sold the ugly ones.

You're probably right about that. And what a shame that would have been too, right? A delicious pie, gone to waste because someone had to have a pretty one. got it? ;)

In this country homos can donate all the blood they want. It doesn't mean the blood bank will use it.

Employer: "I see, Mr. Smith, that you have shown up for your interview dressed in threadbare jeans with oil stains and big rip down the crotch. And you're wearing a T-Shirt with a four-letter word displayed prominently on the front and back."

Interviewee: "Yeah. This is how I express myself. This is the way I always dress. Is that a problem?"

Employer: "This is a bank. We interact with the public every day and we must project a positive and professional image. The way you're dressed doesn't meet our standards."

Interview: "That's awfully narrow-minded. I've known some real crooks who dress in suits every day. I think you need to judge me for what I am inside, man." [scratches crotch absent-mindedly]

Employer: "The interview is over, Mr. Smith. You can see yourself to the door."

Interviewee [loudly]: "You hateful, superficial bigot. I bet you call yourself a Christian, too."

When I say bias I'm talking about my (grown) kids. There are no good tattoos for them IMO. Now, if my husband wants one as long as it's not on his face, whatever. Same way with others. I don't pay much attention unless it is put somewhere to draw attention. Businesses have standards though. People just have to find the place they are most comfortable in. I recently took a trip to the west coast with my Dad. He stopped at a waffle house. That was an interesting bunch. There were 4 guys working the line. One looked like and talked like Elvis. Another had tattoos everywhere but his head. Another had the rings. The 4th Long haired one just stood there drinking coffee and seemed confused. His name was Newbie. The girl was "normal" They did cook a good breakfast though , even if I couldn't watch. The owner showed up too. A cowboy:') They all seemed happy and got along. Except for the girl. They gave her a hard time and were actually rude to her. She didn't fit in with the team I guess:') Maybe if she spiked and died her hair purple? Same way with a conservative business. Leave the studs and hoops at home and don't flaunt your tattoos or you may have trouble fitting in.

I saw a woman dressed like that in Walmarts yesterday. Half of her butt was exposed.

Whats wrong with not hiring smokers? Most non smokers do nto like to smell smoke on people they do business with. Also the health costs, and the lost labor time to smoke breaks, its not worth it. Discrimate against the piercings and tattoos also. If i see someone with a piercing they immediately go into the tragically moronic category and they dont get a job.

Underachievers are easy to work with. They just need to be challenged. The ones that want to do their own thing, and to heck with policy and procedure are good workers too if you can re-direct that energy but, man it takes a lot of time and effort. You can play court all day listening to managers, other staff and them explaining their view point. Every day... "Lose the hoops. Take that tongue ring out, tuck your shirt in, pull up your pants...."

I think that women with ink look hard and haggy and low camp and easy. To me, tattoos were meant for men.

Call me sexist. Or prissy.

Exactly what benefit would there be for you to hire a smoker? So you a prejudicial against non smokers? Is their breath too fresh? do they not cough enough? Come on you can disagree without saying you prefer to hire smokers. Thats like saying, i prefer to hire alcoholics.

First of all you can't ask health questions before you hire someone , so hiring a smoker is kind of a surprise bonus. Patients can not smoke in rooms or halls. I have NEVER had a smoker tell me they were too busy or didn't want to take an extra break to go outside and smoke when supervision needed:')

Oh yes, there are certainly what "you" would call respectible and normal looking folks out there, although each person has their own definition of what is "respectible and normal".

No. I see things in very few shades of Grey, I have only One authority on what is right and what is wrong. What you are purposefully looking past, is that a great deal of these folks belong to a sub or counter culture...in other words, they maintain a different world view than what is considered "normal".

"but perhaps that's a good example of why we should get to know someone before we make a serious judgement about their character. What a good idea! ;)"

Idiot! What, get to know them where? Like at a fricken JOB INTERVIEW!!! Or would you like me to have them over for tea?
