LONDON (AFP) - Britain's Foreign Secretary Jack Straw was rapped for ungentlemanly conduct after reportedly commandeering US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's private quarters on her official jet.

Rice was reported in a number of British newspapers to have graciously offered her British counterpart the use of her bed and cabin on the Boeing 757 plane and Straw ungallantly accepted, leaving her to sleep on the floor.
What one newspaper called "Bedgate" is said to have happened as the political bedfellows flew to Kuwait at the weekend before transferring to a military flight bound for Baghdad.

Is there really only one comfortable place to sleep in this airplane? The floor? Aren't there any sofas on board?

Dr. Rice is probably in MUCH better shape than Mr. Straw. The floor wouldn't have hurt her as much. He probably wouldn't have been able to get up. ;)

Agence France Presse is known for their gross inaccuracies. This is more than likely BS.

It doesn't matter. The fact that Straw may have taken Rice's quarters shows a lack of chivalry, courtesy, and manners.
However, something's fishy about a story from a French rag, so I'll wait to see this confirmed somewhere else.

So what? A hostess is a hostess. AFP is making a stink over nothing. IMHO.

Agence France Presse is known for their gross inaccuraciesOf course, AFP would NEVER hold anything against the British.

Maybe Straw should have simply offered to be her bedwarmer.

How old is Jack Straw? If he is infirm or has some illness we don't know about, perhaps that was okay. I'm about Rice's age and I wouldn't mind giving up a bed for someone more needy than I. The floor isn't too bad when you become used to it.

He probably wouldn't have been able to get up. ;)Ditto. We used to sleep on the floor of the tent when we went camping...now we sleep on a queen sized air bed with frame. The old back just ain't what it used to be.

Someones trying to make something out of nothing. Sounds similar to when clinton gave up his comfy quarters on board to Bush Sr. In that case even a rat like clinton did the right thing.

I'd rather sleep on the floor than try to sleep in one of those cramped-up, economy coach-seats on a commercial airliner.

I agree. When I was stationed in Germany,If you were on a bus,and it was full,if a women were to board and you did not stand and give up your spot, the bus driver pulled over and booted you off!I liked that.

Chivalry is alive and well.
Though, it can be amusing when one holds a door for a lady, and she gives you a strange look while mumbling a thank you. Almost like they haven't a clue what's happening.

I'm a woman. I always turn around and check to make sure someone isn't directly behind me before I let a door close. I expect others to do the same. It is common courtesy, no matter what gender.
