Why Does Hillary Clinton Fear Condoleezza Rice?
by Walter Williams (March 8, 2006)
Presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton used Rev. Al Sharpton's Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration to, as Professor Shelby Steele explains, "whistle for the black vote by pandering to the black sense of grievance." In response to a question from the audience: "I need you to tell us what distinguishes Democrats from Republicans right now," Sen. Clinton answered, "When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about . . . " Though the audience was largely black, I doubt whether any of the attendees had any plantation experience.
Sen. Clinton was simply employing the Democrats' political rope-a-dope for blacks. As Professor Steele asks in his Wall Street Journal editorial, "Hillary's Plantation": "Must blacks have their slave past rubbed in their face simply for Hillary Clinton to make a little hay against modern-day Republicans?" Steele also asks, "Does she really see us as she projects us -- as a people so backward that our support can be won with a simple plantation reference, and the implication that Republicans are racist?"
Sen. Clinton is not alone with such demeaning pandering. Before a predominantly black audience, during his 2004 presidential bid, Sen. John Kerry said, in reference to so many more blacks in prison than college, "That's unacceptable, but it's not their fault." Aside from Kerry being factually wrong about more blacks being in prison than in college, his vision differs little from one that holds blacks as a rudderless, victimized people who cannot control their destiny and whose best hope depends upon the benevolence of white people. I wonder whether Kerry would have told a white audience that jailed white people were faultless. Kerry's other black-audience-only gambit was seen after he addressed the NAACP's 95th annual convention in Philadelphia; he gave the audience the black power clenched-fist salute.
The subtitle to Professor Steele's article is "Hillary Clinton reveals her fear of Condi Rice." He explains that Democrat liberalism has survived decades past the credibility of its ideas because it captured black resentment as an exclusive source of its power. That power will be gone the very day that a significant number of blacks cease to be a people of grievance. This is potentially a Republican advantage. The Democrats and the liberal establishment know that, which is why they vilify high-profile blacks who aren't filled with resentment and grievance.
There are quite a few blacks in charge of stoking the fires of resentment and grievance. First, there's former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume, who said of George W. Bush, "We have a president that's prepared to take us back to the days of Jim Crow segregation and dominance." NAACP Chairman Julian Bond said President Bush has appeased "the wretched appetites of the extreme right wing and has chosen Cabinet officials whose devotion to the Confederacy is nearly canine in its uncritical affection."
During the 2000 presidential campaign, Rev. Jesse Jackson regaled black audiences by telling them that a Bush win would turn the civil rights clock back to the days of Jim Crow. No one bothers to question these people about the accuracy of their predictions.
If Condoleezza Rice threw her hat into the presidential race, it would be Clinton's worse nightmare. Ms. Rice's vision represents triumph rather than grievance. Steele says that by growing up in the segregated South, Ms. Rice might have claimed title to a grievance identity, but she's chosen the older black tradition where blacks neither deny injustice nor permit themselves to be defined by it. Blacks like Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice are of no value to modern liberalism or the Democratic Party. Why? If blacks come to embrace triumph, rather than grievance, the wound to liberal Democrats would be mortal. It wouldn't take much of a desertion of the black vote to make Democrat hopes of recapturing Washington a permanent pipe dream.

Too many pundits, usually leftist and privileged, sneer at country music. To these critics, any music created by poor, Southern whites (at least those poor, Southern whites who didn't attend an Ivy League university) must be held in contempt, along with its correlatives: incest, racism and trailer parks.
Hillary Clinton? Who would even know her name were it not for her attachment to a man? Where would she be now if she as a child had to pick cotton from sun up to sun down?
Tammy Wynette stands alone, a legend; and she will be admired wherever people appreciate the honesty of the human experience. Human beings are vulnerable. We all should be thankful to any artist courageous enough to bare her soul on the public stage so the rest of us who are listening and know whereof she speaks might benefit.

Ironically, the logic of this pronouncement by Martin Luther King would, in short order, be refuted by the reality of his own lynching. King's hope was misplaced and his reasoning was circular. The resultant rule of law relied on by King presumed an adherence to the rule of law in the first instance.
Adherence to the rule of law is not something normally associated with the clintons. Moreover, racial and ethnic disrespect, intimidation, exploitation and hate have always been a fundamental clinton tactic and the reflexive use the "N"-word and other racial and ethnic slurs, an essential element in the clinton lexicon. When the "first black president" and his wife ran Arkansas, the NAACP sued them for intimidating black voters at the polls.
Well, FReeper 2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten has nailed it.
Miss-hillary-of-the-plantation delivered her rant in the form and cadence of an ethnic joke. (And we all know that hillary clinton has had considerable practice doing ethnic jokes.... And slurs.)
What's going on here is somewhat clear to me.
First of all I have a liberal aunt/uncle pair who have been in education as well as other liberal causes their entire lives. I can vividly recall being in their house about 3 years ago or so, and they made this exact argument to me i.e. we can't have vouchers because they might be used to send someone to a KKK school or whatever. So this "argument" has clearly been floating around in education circles for a reasonably long period of time and is probably routinely pulled out and dusted off when need be. Missus clinton probably heard this argument and decided to use it making it sound like she had thought it up.
What is more curious to me is her delivery. It is told in the exact same format as you might tell an ethnic joke. If you go back an listen, some of the internal cadences resemble an ethnic joke. She's making a policy argument but the rhythm, the cadences, the sonata form is as if she were saying "Catholic, Jew, White Supremacist and Jihadist walk into a bar".
Usally these jokes are told with 3 examples, the first two for the setup, and the last one for the punchline. In her case she has 2 setup and 2 punchline. Which has its own disconcerting effect as we're not used to 2 punchlines!
[NOTE: Two punchlines because missus clinton has two target demographic groups--blacks and white women.-- Mia T]
But again, this is yet another demonstration of her political tone deafness--this is not the cadence of political speech-- this is the cadence of someone telling a bad ethnic joke and one in which the audience just wishes they were somewhere else.
One gets the feeling that she tells a lot of these jokes, tells them poorly, but woe be unto Those Who Will Not Laugh.
You vill hear ze joke and you vill like it, jah?

Great stuff, thanks for posting it. I particularly enjoyed the audio of the Katrina survivor who wouldn't be eased into giving ABC what they wanted. Reporters know that they can get what they want by asking questions in certain ways, and I'm sure this guy was stunned that it didn't work with this woman, who he seems to have thought would give him an easy Bush Bash.
As with Hillary, he expects blacks to be ignorant and UNIFIED, like robots.
Hillary knows that in every way Condi is a superior human being. She also knows that debating Condi would be a real political meatgrinder for her.A couple of debates would convince everyone of what she really is.
'HIATUS' FOR HILLARY?
by Mia T, 02.02.06
The clintons, as is their wont, are now taking this proxy scheme to even more outrageous extremes.
The latest: an actual hillary clinton proxy presidency, populated on both sides of the camera by assorted rodham and clinton ex-staffers, sycophants and should-be felons, witness the latest hire.
'Commander-in-Chief,' a show that sets out to crown a 'queen,' instead exposes the kitschy simplemindedness of Hollywood fantasy and the special sway and shortsightedness of the pathologic ego.

Bill O'Reilly chews up and spits out the hillary clinton candidacy
(clip included)
unning vicariously, as we have argued, has its risks. What was supposed to be Hollywood propaganda to make a hillary presidency marginally palatable has instead become a parable about missus clinton's own dystopian future.
ABC announced the other day that it is pulling "Commander-in-Chief" off the air "until spring." Missus clinton's proxy presidency, you see, has been in a ratings free fall ever since "American Idol" took it on.
In a perverse life-mirrors-art moment, support for the real-life missus clinton's presidency has plummeted, too. This even sans Rudy, her real-life "American Idol" opponent.

Could it be that Condi is also a lot smarter than she is? I do believe that to be the case.
Because Condi is super-fine in those black boots with the stilleto heals, and Hillary, well, she doesn't.
Because National Security Advisor and Secretary of State over 5 years beats the hell out of 8 years as 1st Lady and 6 years as a carpetbagging NY State senator?
very true
not an insignificant factor, (altho even if a sexily shod hillary were a possibility, that woman would never get the men's vote....)
a typo... sorry
thx
She looks manly there. Does she ever date men? Anyone know anything about her familial aspirations? How old is she anyway?
