Imagine that you came home tomorrow and found a stranger living in your home. Would you pay $148 to have him removed, or would you instead just legally adopt him and give him the run of the place to save the $148? The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C., thinks the practical thing to do would be adopt the undocumented family member that broke into your home.
At least, that is what I can extrapolate from the report they released last week purporting to document the true cost of deporting rather than amnestying-- the 10 million illegal aliens that have smuggled themselves into our homeland over the past two decades. According to the study, which was dutifully reported by the Washington Post and others, it would cost the Federal Government $41 billion per year over the next five years to take the draconian step of actually enforcing our immigration laws.
Lets pretend, for just a moment, that the ghost of the bloody Greek King Dracon is not laughing hysterically at the idea that being deported home in an air-conditioned bus is now considered draconian. And while were in fantasyland, let us also pretend that the $41 billion per year figure is even remotely accurate. The Federal Government has an annual budget of $2.34 trillion per year. Our Gross Domestic Product is a staggering $12 trillion per year. $41 billion would be just 1.7% of the Federal budget, and a miniscule 0.34% of our GDP.

Illegal aliens caused my lumbago.
It does get ridiculous seeing some of the knee jerk reactions.
Islam, a Religion of Peace®? ( links, blogs, quips, quotes, aggravating pictures ) is located here- click the Pic, and scroll backwards:
"Thunder on the Border," click the picture:
( PS- my personal prediction? That picture will become one of the most widely distributed, and most hated, pictures on the internet. The Illegal lobby could not have done more damage to themselves with that "Mexican Flag Superior, America in Distress" photograph if they had tried... )
How come you never mention that picture happened at a liberal and teacher union infested California public school.
Look, if illegals were as disasterous as you say, taxes here would be lower. Instead, they're higher and the cost of living here, except for real estate prices, is actually higher than Los Angeles. There isn't as much competition because there are fewer customers, so the crummy local market is more expensive than Gelson's was in California.
There are certainly bad effects of illegals, but I think there are positive impacts too, that you are all ignoring. I think that many of you hate illegals so much that you're blind to the good things about the cultural mix.
In California, we had bad government services long before there were illegals. I just find it absurd that we blame problems on illegals instead of trying to fix problems that are often our fault and predate illegals by a long, long time.
Should we try to solve problems caused by greedy teachers unions and a shoddily run unified school district, or should we just shrug our shoulders, say "It's all illegals' fault!" and let them run amok?
D
The idea would be to make the illegal WANT to return home to their country of origin... Freeze the supply of 'freebies' that these people get and fine employers of illegals and you will see a mass exodus IMHO.....
I approve of people who want to work, and in my experience, illegals are a lot more eager to work than our own entry level workers.
I admire people who face terrible poverty in their country and instead of sitting on their bottoms, try to do something about it. That, to me, is the real American way.
I admire the principles of the Statue of Liberty, which shows immigration as the bedrock of America, and Mexicans just another stage of it.
It's not unjust at all to hate a rapist. Unless things have changed radically in the last year and a half, the overwhelming majority of illegals are not rapists or even criminals (other than their illegal entry into the US).

well wave the mexican flag pal, instead of working in THEIR own country to fix it's problems they RUN here where they hide from those problems, and you admire that??
Let me point out one other thing. I assume you're talking about Los Angeles?
The pro-illegal protests attracted about 500,000 people. I'd be really shocked if that was more than 1 in 10 illegals.
So that meanas we have at least 5,000,000 illegals and I seem to remember LA has about 15,000,000 people. So 33% of our population are illegals and it would then be perfectly logical to think that they would comprise 30% of our prison population. That's actually a little less than the average, so if these figures pan out, illegals are not criminals at a rate much higher, if at all higher, than the general population.

Excuse me but your brain isn't working correctly I don't think. If someone broke into your house without your permission and offered to clean it you would let them stay? What if 10 or 20 broke in and wanted to stay and all took a hand in cleaning your house but of course you had to feed them also. In addition any health care expense would fall on you and they would demand that they not have to pay any rent. Simply being in your house would be considered ample payment to you, don't you know?
AND on top of all that they would demand that you give them more rights to your personal life and tell you what a jerk you are and that your house really belongs to them because back in 1648 their great, great, great grandfather killed an Indian on that spot and slept on the ground next to a campfire, therefore making the land your house is on righfully theirs.
Sounds ridiculous right? Unfortunately this is basically what is going on in this country right now. La Raza says that for us to pass an illegal immigration act that requires them to have american values and to assimilate into the American culture would "be dangerous to their coumminties" and they can't allow that!
Nice, huh? Start thinking for yourself and try reading a little more about MS-13 and organizations such as La Raza, it may help you come out of your liberal fog!
But, but, but as long as they can get a cheap maid and nanny and lown mowing guy, it's ok!!
susie
In Mexico, they have very little, if any, power to realistically try to fix their country. If you were not aware of it, Mexico is a very corrupt country and that's extremely difficult to change.
If I might ask a question, what have illegals done to you, personally, to make you so upset?
When I was in Los Angeles, I had a positive impression of them as hard workers who were often unappreciated and poorly treated by many.

It's in my links.
No point belaboring the obvious. And remember, the staff at Montebello High claimed "some other guys did it..."
Well shouldn't you be like Paul Harvey and when you use that picture, "tell the rest of the story".
I think that would be the best solution for people like you, just leave and go to mexico, it is obviously a great place to be considering the number of ILLEGALS waving Mexican flags lately. I guess our government just won't let all the blood sucking leeches who came here without permission leave, we keep them here agaisnt their will, yeah, that's it!
If you read my original post on this thread, you will see that I have in fact done so and the anti-American attitudes are disturbing to me.
Unfortunately I don't like the kind of arguments that are used against illegals, either. The knee-jerk arguments against people who clean our toilets, our houses and do a lot of low-level industrial work no citizens want to do anymore strike me as wrong-headed and chauvenistic.
The truth is that it's not like breaking into anyone's house. They are here because we're giving them work. They want to work and I really like that about them. What could be more positive a thing than people who work and try to send money to their families to give them a better life? We have people who are risking their lives every day just to work!
I'm dealing right now with American workers who don't want to work, who are lazy and incompetent. I'd rather have illegals, but there are none here to hire. I miss them, because they were good, and because they liked to work hard. If you treated them well, they would treat you right, unlike slothful, cynical Americans.
Our work ethic and culture have gone straight downhill in the last couple of decades, and illegals show us how far down we've gone. Perhaps that's why there is so much resentment against them.
And I think it's that resentment that leads to the kind of backlash we saw in the "We hate America!" demonstrations.
Can't we just ... get along? Rodney King was a bad person, but that remark resonates in my mind.

All we need is enough railroad cars and enough will.
When you don't have a reasoned response, you use false ad hominems as your "reason".
Typical.
