The price of gasoline could rise this summer because of supply problems from the phaseout of a fuel additive found to contaminate groundwater, government and industry officials said at a Senate hearing Wednesday.

The additive, methyl tertiary butyl ether, or MTBE, accounts for about 10% of the volume of every gallon of gasoline with which it is blended -- or 1.4% of the nationwide supply -- but refiners plan to stop using it next month because Congress refused to grant them protection from lawsuits.

$2.41 in west Phoenix. One stupid excuse after another. I wonder what the boiling point will be this time? Last year it was $3.00 before people started raising hell.

The rising prices of energy should make a lot of voters think twice about the obstructionist dems when they vote.. but for many , I doubt it will much difference at all. Sad..

They'll just blame Bush and the evil oil companies anyway. People have become totally brainwashed and are unable to think for themselves.

And don't put too many miles on their wagons. When my dad was a kid, he lived on a dairy farm. Each day he delivered his milk to a place seven miles away. Took most of the morning.

$2.58 here in Jacksonville, FL. I drive a small 4 cylinder pickup so the price increase doesn't bother me too much.

I have no sympathy for people driving their USS Behemoths around and then complain about rising gas prices. If you want to drive one of these monstrosities, that's fine by me. It's a free country. Just don't bitch about the price of gas.

While I was in Germany last week, I paid $6.00 a gallon.

$6.00/gallon isn't too bad if you are driving one of these around.

I've seen these "Smart Cars" all over Europe.

And unfortunately, ethanol is far from free. In fact, it's more expensive right now than gasoline, and will only go up from here as demand (artifically mandated by government) rises.

I wonder how it would look going down the road behind a MAC and in front of a Peterbuilt.

True.

The one bit of good news is that BP's refinery in Houston, the one that blew up before Hurricane Rita hit, is just about to come back on line.

That should help because it's one of the biggest in the country.
