The Yahoo article cited above is a story containing excerpts from the Jill Carroll statement. Here's something they left out:
Things that I was forced to say while captive are now being taken by some as an accurate reflection of my personal views. They are not. The people who kidnapped me and murdered Alan Enwiya are criminals, at best. They robbed Alan of his life and devastated his family. They put me, my family and my friends - all those around the world - who have prayed so fervently for my release - through a horrific experience. I was, and remain, deeply angry with the people who did this."

Not sure how this will play out, but now that she is safely outside Iraq, she may reveal a lot of very damaging information about the nature of Iraqi society and politics; information she knew but kept silent about so she could live and work there. At the least, I'm sure any romantic notions she may have had about the Middle East, its culture, and its peoples have now been thoroughly dispelled.

Her latest press release is very strongly worded.
I've heard it said that a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged by reality.
