Congresswoman [McKinney] Accuses Capitol Police Officer of Racial Bias
New York Times ^ | April 1, 2006 | Carl Hulse

Posted on 04/01/2006 11:39:32 AM PST by John Jorsett

Representative Cynthia A. McKinney and her legal advisers blamed racial bias Friday for her run-in with a Capitol police officer as the incident ballooned into a political furor.

At a news conference at Howard University, Ms. McKinney, a Georgia Democrat, said her physical altercation with the unidentified officer, who was screening visitors to a House office building on Wednesday, was the officer's fault.

"Let me be clear," Ms. McKinney said, surrounded by supporters at the historically black university. "This whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female black congresswoman. I deeply regret this incident occurred, and I am certain that after a full review of the facts, I will be exonerated."

One of her lawyers, James Myart, said the case typified a pattern of police harassment of black Americans. "My belief is this is no different than that: 'they all look alike,' " he said.

The encounter took place at a checkpoint to a building across Independence Avenue from the Capitol. According to accounts by police officers and Congressional officials, Ms. McKinney went around one of the metal detectors that are at the entrances and staffed by the police. The officer reportedly told her to stop, and when she did not he apparently tried to stop her, provoking a physical response from Ms. McKinney. Members of Congress are allowed to sidestep the metal detectors.

Ms. McKinney acknowledged that she had not been wearing the lapel pin that would have identified her as a member of Congress. But she said the police responsible for protecting lawmakers should recognize them on sight.

Mr. Myart, the lawyer, said Ms. McKinney was exploring her legal options and would pursue a criminal investigation against the officer.

Amen to that but like most conservatives they do not have time because they are working hard and taking care of their families.

It does seem when conservative blacks do speak out they are dismissed by many as "not being black enough"....not sure what that means.

Ms. Hothead needs to be slapped down a few notches and show some respect to the people responsible for protecting her life.

It says a lot about the VOTERS*, the liberals in Congress, as goofy as they are, did not elect her.

*Of course, you can't blame the dead ones;)

She is the personification of the modern KKK. Just a different color. She is a first class citizen. She has rights and privileges under the law that I do not.

Whenever this has happened in a society, the 2nd class citizens have had to take back their rights, or eventually they lost them all. I wonder what will happen here.

I am not advocating anything against the law or any violence against anyone. Just promoting free discussion about what could happen to a privileged class based on history.

Yes, that is the standard cop-out used by the liberal blacks to define successful conservative blacks that no longer ride the victimization bandwagon and do not need the useless ThugoRat party. Those black people are no longer black...it shows how sick and selfish the liberal blacks really are.

IS SHE ON CRACK?!

Has anyone looked at the skin pigment of the security at the Capitol? Seems like a good "quota" mix to me.

She must REALLY be running scared if she is pulling out the race bait card this early.

She may be a looney but this has gone tooo far. This woman needs to be stopped before she does real damage.

Conservative Blacks have no more ability to clean up the likes of McKinney than Whites have the ability to clean up the likes of Jim McDermott. I'd like to see us get away from the idea that we as individuals are somehow responsible for policing our 'group.' Let's all of us denounce McKinney as the shrill, clownish, race-baiting harpy she is.

I watched the "press conference," and I use that term very loosely. To me she looked stoned out of her mind on acid or is seriously looney. If I didn't know what channel I was watching I would have sworn it was a skit on SNL or MAD TV.

She has been doing this for years and is one of the most mentally unstable members of Congress...

But being the Girl Who Cried Racism means that people will also roll their eyes at the legitimate slights that the first black Congresswoman from Georgia has faced. In August 1993, during her first term in office, a Capitol Hill police officer tried to prevent her from bypassing a metal detector, as members of Congress are allowed to do. For years afterward, The Hill reports, the Capitol Police pinned a picture of McKinney to an office wall, warning officers to learn her face because she refuses to wear her member's pin...

Type her name into a search engine and add either conspiracy theory, racist, jew, she always comes up as a raving nutcase...her father is actually worse believe it or not!

It is high time that conservative, respectable Black Americans started cleaning up the ranks of these low-lifes, like McKinney.

Sad to say I agree. The cost of government entitlement slavery imposed on Blacks by the new plantation DemoRats and race baiter's is measured in the Black youth prison population and the destruction of the Black family.

McKinney will sell her own Black countrymen for her own personal egotistical gratification. American Blacks should joyfully place her in a cell, rather than Congress.

Probably for the same reason I refuse to vote for a single democrat or join that sickening party. It's a lost cause so they put their support behind conservative candidates in hope they will make a change.

They scream about security and when it is enforced it's a racist action.

What if this had been someone with a gun or a homicide bomber? And the officer had not stopped them there would of been hell to pay.

And I accuse congresscritter McKinney of being an imbecilic leftist shill for muslims and other assorted lowlifes.

It was good to see the two "notables" that stepped up to the microphone for this jackass and said absolutely nothing!

The more we see of the McKinneys, Lees, Waterses, etc. etc. the more public opinion comes down hard on the communities of color when all see how they waste their votes on absolute nincompoops!

Look at the names thrown at Thomas, Rice, Powell or any other high profile Black Conservative American.

Hell, get it first hand, ping Trueblack man and let him tell you what it's like for conservative blacks - they get it from both sides!!!

Because the Capitol Police for one have more class. Two they have the evidence to prove what happened and three, if they come out swinging at McKinney it just gives her cult more ammunition to paint then all as racists.

Let the Cap Police handle this in the courtroom.
