Illegal aliens didn't build U.S.
Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | March 29, 2006 | Jack Markowitz

Posted on 04/01/2006 6:57:01 AM PST by Supernatural

It's a new chapter in the Promised Land. We are becoming The Land That Better Keep Its Promises - or Else. Even promises that never were made.

A half-million illegal aliens and friends and sympathizers have taken to the streets of late, demanding unhampered residency and employment. Their anger is being whipped up against an America that would fence its borders against more coming over, and require proper payroll-keeping and taxpaying from employers who hire them outside the law.

Why? In part because a new myth is gaining currency. It is that illegal immigrants, mostly of Mexican or other Hispanic origin, "built this country." Without them the economy would collapse.

"We are the motor of this nation!" a speaker harangued the 500,000 who marched in Los Angeles on Saturday. "We construct your schools! We cook your food!" Other thousands marched to this beat of indispensability in Phoenix, Denver and Milwaukee.

That people who entered the United States by stealth feel entitled to tie up U.S. downtowns with their grievances is nervy in the first place. But their slant on U.S. history is off the wall. No better clue might be needed that kids should be taught in English, fast!

It was religious freedom-seekers from England who began building this country, followed by natives of every part of Europe, Asia and Africa. And their descendants keep right on building it as e pluribus unum Americans -- "out of the many, one." Don't expect them to honor some dubious economic necessity to let everybody in.

How much is a "cheap" tomato, Dane? What is the true cost of those "cheap" vegetables you buy at the supermarket? Have you ever placed your mouth in neutral long enough to allow your brain to spin up to speed so you can grapple with that question?

Instead of name-calling, try using your brain for critical thinking for a change.

Consumers will demand that most of the present illegals be readmitted. That will be the proof that consumers are the engine behind the excessive immgration. Meanwhile socialist theories of "greedy business" are just amusing to me- and useless to those who use them.

Yes, some costs of illegal immigration are not paid directly that's why government needs to not just control but enforce the level of legal immigration. The marketplace can't do the job without real penalties.

Oh that's right, you probably won't, since the people who run those comapnies are "eviL" capitalists.

In your world, is violation of the law a part of true capitalism? Does capitalism advocate breaking the law to achieve its goals? Do capitalists believe they are above the law?

Illegal aliens are not valuable because they do the jobs Americans "won't" do. Illegals work cheaper than Americans because they come from a lower standard of living.

Americans won't do the jobs illegals do at the wages paid to illegals

To say, as the government in W@Washington says, that they cannot round up and deport illegal aliens is to admit that they cannot enforce the law. Time to change government, and I don't mean to give power back to the Democrat/Socialist under whose control the situation would be come worse..

It would be cheap, easy and quick to deport illegal aliens.
Cheaper than supporting them; easy because they are easily identified; and quicker because as the number coming in is stopped and the number being kicked out increases, the whole process would become faster.

My ex was a member of the Carpenter's Union here. They hired non-English speaking Hispanics (green card holders?)and displaced alot of guys who were desperate for those jobs. None had the certifications and training needed... so they were constantly having do-overs.

And how about you living in the real world where trial lawyers and teachers unions do exist, instead of when they are mentioned, you put your hands to your ears and scream, "lalalalalalalala, I don't hear you".

True -- but did you ever wonder why they didn't need immigration laws before then?

Exactly. Is America unable to maintain a high standard of living without permanent brown slavery?

The country needed more people at the time.

I think the current population of 290,000,000 to 300,000,000 is more than sufficient.

Perhaps Canada would like to be completely over run with Mexicans and millions of others illegals from other nations.

Let them have your jobs and see how you like it.

And what should that wage be?

Should it be $20 dollars an hour. Do you own a business? Would you mind if I came into your business and demand how much you should pay your employees by a barrel of a gun?

There is nothing better than napalming faux conseratives(i.e market meddling marxists) in the morning.

Could you please show me where people own other people as "property" in the year 2006?

The middle class of this country is being destroyed.

Bingo! This cannot be repeated enough!
Unskilled (or entry-level jobs), semi-skilled, construction trades are being squeezed.

Middle and upper middle-class jobs offshored, and it's not just call center jobs... radiology, architecture, legal services and research, engineering, programming, data warehousing.

And you on Monday morning are going to apply for a vegetable picker or janitorial job?

Oh, for crying out loud. Isn't it time to rotate talking points?

saw that show about Henry Ford.

He knew how to make real Americans out of people.

..whoa!

Henry Ford was a well-known Nazi sympathizer and vicious anti-semite.

I certainly wouldn't use him as any kind of example.

Even economically, this doesn't make sense.

Illegal immigrants send tens of billions of US Dollars back home, which adds to our foreign trade deficit as surely as any product manufactured overseas and imported into this country.

Illegal immigrants working in the USA is an outsourcing of our jobs and a drain on our balance of payments.
