The Alabama state legislature has voted to change the value of the mathematical constant pi from 3.14159 to the 'Biblical value' of 3.0.

It must be 1898 because I remember the joke from the early 1950 's and it was old then.

This is a misinterpretation of the actual text. The vessel the bible describes is shaped like a lilly - it has a wider mouth than body. The bible gives the diameter of the opening and the circumference of the vessel. It is measuring two separate circles.
