WASHINGTON -- Surveys in Iowa and New Hampshire found that former Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner appealed strongly to stalwart Democrats as a potential presidential candidate, a GOP pollster says.
"Mark Warner was the big star" in the surveys this month of likely Democratic caucus and primary voters in the two states, pollster Frank Luntz told reporters yesterday. The two states are first in the nation to hold nominating contests.
Warner "ought to frighten Republicans if he were ever to get the nomination -- because he could win" in 2008, Luntz said.

The outgoing governor of Virginia who promised not to raise taxes then did anyway.

at the risk of being flamed..I kinda think Senator Allen from Virginia would be a good candidate..how would he stack up against warner?..or does this board have another favorite..I must admit..I like Rudy personally..but don't like his social policies..McCain is too rino for my taste..and Frist is just too damn dull..fair or not..he comes across dull..imho

Luntz is another guy who was so wrong so often in 2004 that he just about disappeared from the tube. Yes warner COULD win, but only in the sense that the Dalai Lama COULD win.
The rat party has become the party of the far left. 1) He would never get the nomination.
2) If he ever did the crazy rat would not support him.
3) His main value is as a way to panic the beast into moving further to the left to nail down the rat nomination.
That could help John Spencer.

I am like the guy who is sitting at a show of some kind, waiting for the big surprise to come out busting through the curtains..." :) I CAN'T BELIEVE what we've seen so far is all we've got????? /shocked
I see a lot of people in the Republican party that I like, Cornyn for one, with presence, experience, appeal, but he is not running I don't think. Allen is the best of the bunch but only one so far... but I am not sure about him yet
I saw Newt Gingrich on Hannity the other day... and I can't help to be impressed by his intelligence... He is the only one at Gulliani's level of appeal I believe... and he is so damn smart, creative, knows history and just knows how to talk (to my level anyway :) I love listening presenting his ideas. I wish he had not screwed up.. shame.

He does lean right on some issues... He ~leans~ in whichever direction will get him votes. Then he ~does~ what any good liberal would do.
He's a smoke and mirrors candidate. And a tax and spend politician.

Me either. I just don't get it. I think some admire the fact he's a telecom multimillionaire and others are grateful he didn't govern from the far left, but there's really no chemistry there.

Warner "ought to frighten Republicans if he were ever to get the nomination -- because he could win" in 2008, Luntz said.
I don't think anyone should be frightened of Warner, but IMHO he's the best shot the dims have among their likely candidates in '08.
I would think their strategy would be to hold the states 'flip-flop the Vietnam hero' won in '04 and try to pick off a couple of the red states. For all the hype surrounding Hillary, I don't see her picking off any of the states that Bush carried. Warner could be at least competitive in some of the southern and swing states.
Among his negatives are no depth, has only held one elected office, and his crowning achievement was the biggest tax increase in Virginia history. Sadly, our RINO state senate gave him some cover on the tax hike by proposing an even bigger one than Warner's.

and on to more important things .. where are you going to watch the game tonight ?????????? There's a nationwide listing of Watch Parties on the GMU Alumni page (scroll down). I'm thinking of either the Glory Days in Reston or one of the venues in Sterling. Are y'all thinking of going to one?

I'm not sure about the second part.
They did support Bill Clinton, after all.
I imagine that they're even more desperate after 8 years in the cold.
I guess it depends upon which force wins out.
The far-left definitely has more power within the Dem. Party today than it did during the early '90s.

I'm thinking their ticket will be Hillary/Warner and it's going to be rough for us. I never thought America would elect x42 the first two times, so I wouldn't be surprised if they elect them again.

THINKING of it, maybe even going to the Johnson Center if we could get in, but most likely will end up watching from home.
Had to drive thru downtown Fairfax last night @ 10pmm and it was SUCH FUN ... stuck in traffic, for once due to not only construction but all the young people going into the bars, restaurants and pubs to celebrate .. the Auld Sheyban was doing a BRISK business. Hope they're sober enough today to enjoy the game!
Funny a small school like that could produce TWO Nobel winners in Economics but it took a basketball team to 'put them on the map!'

The Johnson Center will be mobbed! I am going over there at some point and take a picture of the George Mason bronze in his t-shirt, though and soak up a little of the frivolity you wrote about. Did you know that GMU started as a satellite campus of UVa?
