LIBERTY CITY -- Police in this Miami neighborhood are looking for the parents of a child who was abandoned Thursday night, news partner NBC 6.

A witness told police that a car dropped the child off at about 11 p.m. in the area of Northwest 15th Avenue and 62nd Terrace.

"I've heard of this happening with pets and that's bad, but for this to happen to a child, to be left in the middle of nowhere, that's unbelievable," police spokesman Lt. Bill Schwartz said.

Police brought the child to the police department. She was wearing an oversized, multi-colored sweater and has white beads in her hair.

"This child was seen running down the street on 62nd Terrace from 15th Avenue Northwest, screaming, 'Daddy, daddy' and chasing a car -- a light brown or gold older model vehicle," Schwartz said.

Police canvassed the area but have not located the girl's parents. They also do not know the identity of the child, who they believe is 4 or 5 years old.

This absolutely breaks my heart! As a foster parent for over 35 years for Los Angeles county , I have witnessed so much child abuse. I pain so for children that are treated like animals, or worse!

Think again. If this were the early sixties, (without Free Republic), who would have expressed what I have seen tonight?

How many would have said, "I'll take that child into my home?"....she's uh...black...you know...

Well, a bunch of us tonight are ready to do that....and I bet some of us aren't black....I hope she gets a real Mom and Dad to raise her.

Back about sixteen years ago there was a news story at Christmastime, about three children who were left home alone while their parents went to Mexico to vacation. The kids were really young. The authorities found family that would take the kids in. And the parents were arrested when arriving back in the US.

My mother had heard of this story a week after Christmas. She said, had she known about these kids, she would have gone to rescue them, in a heartbeat. She said she would have had to do this, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sit still, from worrying so much.

I think I remember something similar to that happening here in Colorado a few years ago. Parents left kids home for a vacation, kids very young, etc.

May the parents come to a vividly startling awareness of the errors of their ways and come to genuine heart felt--life changing confession and repentance . . . before, during and after they pay for what they have done to that poor child.

You know, I was thinking that the "daddy" who abandoned this child was probably a dope-addict. Crack/Cocaine makes humans do some of the most terrible things to themselves and others. I have seen it. Nothing matters anymore except the rock...not your family, not your self, not your beautiful children.
People do things for it without thinking past the next hit.

The little girl does look like she has been cared for previously...the braids and beads in her hair...but it also looks like it had been awhile since then as her hair was somewhat scruffy.

There is no stronger emotion in the human world than the need by the child to feel loved and wanted by parent.

I have seen ruthless hard men in hard places cry over that longing.

I suppose I'm stereotyping . . . but really, truly,

What are the odds that one or both parents . . .

have something to do with one or more of the following:

--drugs and/or alcohol abuse
--chronic helpelessness; laziness; dysfunctional socialization and cycles of blame etc.

--liberal rants, voting, diatribes and the like.
--low education, poor work record, . . .

--trouble with the law and/or other authority figures.
--rebellion, selfishness, self-absorption,

--wild-haired fantasy life about some golden ship coming in some day without any serious effort toward making that happen . . .

--poor parenting themselves with virtually a total lack of adequate attachment the first 6 years of their lives and certainly insufficient healthy attachment to any parent figure and at least to any healthy father figure . . .

--a childhood of at least emotional abuse and neglect themselves . . .

--no serious healthy spiritual focus on God Almighty.
--no significant healthy track record of successful problem solving and overcoming the deeper, more intense difficulties in life.

--few to no social supports of any significance, much less great healthiness.

Probably the parents are little more than older immature infants themselves in adult bodies. No excuse. They knew better than to pull such a stunt. There were other alternatives. But they somehow evidently felt there were no other alternatives.

At least they didn't drown the kid or shoot the kid.

Sigh.

The white beads speak to me of some serious caring on the part of some woman in the child's life. Perhaps even the mother.

Evidently the mother felt exceedingly trapped and hopeless with no way out and didn't want the child to continue to suffer along with her. Or, perhaps she felt she was losing it and couldn't be depended on to take care of her any longer or to make healthy choices around her any longer.

The beads took a long time. They are an act of caring--evidently a goodbye act of caring.

Does NOT excuse the horrible action but it is one feature of the whole picture.

I thank God I was never raised to look at the color of ones' skin. My dearest and only brother and sister in law were missionaries to French West Africa. When he was the sickest, with malaria, he said it was those precious black sisters and brothers that lovingly cared for him as his own family. My dad would have been 98 yesterday had he still been living , and back in the 40'and 50's when the rest of the nation still was very racially divided, my dear pop and mom were NOT!!! God BLESS Their memory!!

I thought of that very same thing too. Someone had to have SOME feeling to care for her. That takes WORK, believe me!!
