State Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, wants to clear up something: He did not endorse former state Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian of San Marcos for the 50th Congressional District race.
Kaloogian mailers have gone to Republican households containing a picture of McClintock with quotes from the popular conservative saying nice things about Kaloogian. McClintock, who is running for lieutenant governor, protested yesterday that those quotes were from two years ago when he endorsed Kaloogian for U.S. Senate.
McClintock said because of his high regard for state Sen. Bill Morrow who also is running for the 50th Congressional District seat he is not making an endorsement in the race.
For his part, Kaloogian points out that the mailer doesn't actually say McClintock is endorsing him for this race. McClintock's picture and quote run under a headline: Respected by conservative leaders. Others under that headline, like Steve Forbes, have given their endorsement and it says so. McClintock wasn't the only one irked by Kaloogian's use of other candidates. Morrow also wasn't happy.
Howard Kaloogian's campaign Web site includes a picture and a quote from me from 2001 that implies that I have endorsed his candidacy for Congress, Morrow, R-Carlsbad, said in a press release. Howard knows that I have not endorsed his candidacy, and that I am running for the same congressional seat.
Morrow called for Kaloogian to take his photo off the site.
Got it, Tom.
A word of advice,, lay off the Rhino wine... lol
BnG ,, when someone chooses to turn their back on conservative candidates and effectively go with moderates only to maintain or gain power, does that please you? It does not in my case. We see the rersults of that today at the state and federal levels and see how "successful" that has been.
Obviously you are able to swallow a lot more than I could to just keep a legitimately divided party together at any cost. That is where my reference to Rhino, not the other word came into play, obviously you read it another way.. tsk tsk.
You're both certainly entitled to your opinions. Thanks for sharing them.
Are either of you voters in this district primary race, by chance?
If I was Howard, I'd still use the brochures, just have the pics and quotes cut out buy hand and let folks wonder what that is all about.
That ought to be a real attention grabber as well.;-)
Norm, why did you post this story?
It does no one any good, neither Tom nor Howard.
Au contraire, DL. Should the SD U-T not have even written it.
You think they have a horse in this race? Have they endorsed anyone yet?
Republicans should and can have disagreements and still come together when it matters most, better to lance the boil now , imo.
They both would and will have my vote when it is time to cast them.
What district are you in btw? who's your local Congressional rep? Mine is Honda and my area yields reps like Stark, Lofgren and Eshoo.
I'm sorry, I still don't get it.
Why does "lancing the boil" include skewering Tom ?
You call that skewering? geeesh . lolol. You have much too thin a skin to be on a forum, imo. lol
Yes, skewering. At every opportunity.
Are you saying Tom must have "thin skin" too, for his response?
Oh geez, DL. What a stretch.
Obviously, he can take it. Would that you could as well.
This hand wringing is so unbecoming of you, but thanks for bumping the thread.
That wasn't the question.
Does Tom's response have merit or not?
He's entitled to his opinion as are you and I.
If he thinks he's being used , so be it.
You've been here awhile, are you his redeemer or did you draw short straw this week?
again , thanks for the bumps.
I'll say it again,
Never fall in love with a politician, they'll likely break your heart in the end.
Do you think he's being used?
This is just one more of the "Special K" (K for KOOK?) scandals in this campaign:
- The Istanbul, Turkey photo his site claimed was one taken in Baghdad (and yet no actually Baghdad photo has been posted to replace it).
- The pro-life organization he claimed had endorsed him has not
- now he's trying to make it look like Tom endorsed him over fellow conservative Morrow which didn't happen
- it gets worse if he tried to say Morrow endorsed him over himself!!
I suggest Howard should be going down in flames of his political stupidity.
Hopefully it gets people to "wake up" about Howard's tactics and lay off the Kool-Aid. I'm in the district and I voted.
I'm not thrilled about ANY Republican looking bad.
It's the Dems I want to see go down in flames.
At least you have choices in your district, while we're stuck with smarmy Bob Filner.
