Mexican flag burned after week of protests

Associated Press Mar. 31, 2006 07:10 AM

Tensions over immigration got a little heated Thursday in Apache Junction.

A Mexican flag was brought to school by a Hispanic student in response to what he said was a racist remark directed at him the day before. After he and other students raised the flag on the school's flagpole, the newspaper said another group of students took it down and burned it.

The burning and ensuing shoving match between the two groups of students happened before most students arrived at the school.

The school's principal said all six students involved will be disciplined.

Security was beefed up after the incident but there were no other problems at the school Thursday.

"This is the USA. Not Mexico. Get over it."

Was that meant for me? Or are you agreeing with me?

(Estados Unidos=United States)

"Isn't that a hate crime???"

Raising the Mexican Flag on a pole here is a hate crime against America.

"Expell the flagbearers... that's a better solution than wasting time and energy burning a flag."

We've had that right taken away by 'our' government. Apathy has never carried the day for any nation.

This isn't the 'land of their ancestors'.

The 'ancestors' of most of the insurrectionists are tribes from Mexico, and Spaniards.

Well I'm a compassionate conservative and I hope somebody urinated on it to put the fire out.

Or maybe some semi-solid brown particles as well?

When a foreigner or someone with loyalty to another country takes down the American flag on US soil and raises the flag of a foreign country, that is a symbol of victory and an act of war. It is a symbol that the United States is no longer sovereign over that piece of real estate.
Those who raised that flag should be deported immediately without hearing and those who burned it should be given medals. I am hoping by your comment that you failed to realize that this flag was not merely waved, but was used to replace the American flag on American soil. If that doesn't get your blood boiling to the point where you would gleefully burn that Mexican flag and stomp it into the earth, then you are not a patriot.

Insert APPLAUSE soundtrack!!

So you find it admirable to be an illegal invader for decades, hmmm? Who cares how long they have been here. If they are MEXICANS, they are MEXICANS.

How True. Have you ever asked a Mexican what they think of Spainards? Oh while I'm at it: "...The Mexican freedom struggle took eleven years before Spain would concede defeat and release its stranglehold. Within that same year, 1821, Agustin de Iturbide, a Spanish general turned rebel and a hero of the revolution, became emperor of the new nation. Only his regime was too extravagant for some tastes and in no time, a revolt led by General Antonio Miguel de Lopez de Santa Anna Perez de Lebron, better known as simply Santa Anna, brought about Iturbide’s downfall and established the declaration for a Mexican republic. Under Iturbide, however, American colonists were allowed to settle in Texas. About the only condition to owning land was that all immigrant land owners had to be Catholic, an easy enough problem to overcome for non-Catholics and, once accomplished, easy to forget. William Travis, for instance, became Catholic to purchase land, but remained a staunch Methodist until the day he died. Unfortunately, the fledgling Republic of Mexico was born bankrupt and ill-prepared for self-government. In fact, during its first fifteen years of independence, it had thirteen presidents. All of them struggled for power, shifting between the liberal-leaning Federalists and the dictator-styled Centralists. The seeds of conflict continued to grow. The first president was a Federalist, General Guadalupe Victoria, a hero of the revolution who had changed his name from Miguel Felix Hernandez to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, for his victory. It was he who established the liberal Constitution of 1824 which so infuriated Santa Anna and which would lead to the Battle of the Alamo twelve years later. It was also during this turmoil period for control of Mexico’s presidency that the northern territory of Texas was mostly neglected. When Mexico redefined its territories in 1824, Texas was the only separate territory to lose its independence. It was joined to Coahuila, and the capital moved from San Antonio to Saltillo. Along with the change went the transfer of the State Archives of Texas containing deeds and land grants of all settlers, native-born and naturalized. Armed citizens gathered in protest. In September 1835, they petitioned for statehood separate from Coahuila. They wrote out their needs and their complaints in The Declaration of Causes. This document was designed to convince the Federalists that the Texans desired only to preserve the Mexican Constitution of 1824, a constitution which guaranteed the rights of everyone living on Mexican soil. But by this time, Santa Anna was in power, having seized control in 1833, and he advocated the removal of all foreigners from Mexican soil. His answer was to send his crack troops commanded by his brother-in-law, General Martin Perfecto de Cos, to San Antonio to disarm the Texans." From theoutlaws.com Seems to me we took what was rightfully given to us in the first place.

Alaska was a territory of the United States ~ part of it.

The term "overseas" is popularly used to mean "abroad".

The descendants of the Mexican citizens who lived in this territory when it was acquired from Mexico still live in this territory, or even elsewhere in the United States.

The Roman Catholic Church, to us an example, had had its property throughout California seized by the Mexican government. The United States government RESTORED the RCC property rights.

You can read all about it in every single one of the California missions.

Kind of like the Eastern lands were PAID FOR.

Although it is popularly believed (by the uninformed) that lands in the East formerly owned by various Indian tribes were simply stolen, the only clear cut case of that happening occurred in New York State about 1830 when the Oneida Indians were declared to be "white people", and their land was seized since whites were not allowed to own Indian lands.

That was settled by the USSC not too long ago, and the Oneida are now in the business of selecting which New York stateowned properties they need ~ like schols, freeways, waterworks, all the good stuff.

In general Eastern tribes were paid for their land. They were given reserves in the West as well.

BTW, the Oneida Indians, and other tribes, were American allies in the War for Independence. Most Indians were NOT nomadic. However, their primary occupation at that time was as professional meat hunters.

It's far more complicated than you can imagine.

The Oneida's have a pretty good casino business just off the Thruway.

"... The invaders forfeited their property rights when they raised their rag on a pole belonging to and paid for by American taxpaying citizens."

This is correct. I'm sure that it's established case law.

I live here in AZ and see it everyday. My highschool student has to deal with this everyday he is in school. There have been at least two "flag" moments (for lack of a better word) in the past month at his school and the staff act as if nothing happened as long as the Mexican students are happy, but as soon as a non Latin student says or does something, they are in the office. Unless you live on a cloud, you should be able to see these things without others having to point them out to you. This is going to get a lot worse before we can hope for anything to get better. We should be proud of our children for standing up for America, yet we punish them. No one has the right to fly any flag above the American flag/remove the American flag to fly one of their country instead on American soil. That is insane! Read about it on azcentral.com

My husband is from England and had to wait his turn to come here; he did not just wake up one day and decide to swim across and sneak into the country. He went about it the RIGHT way. This country was founded by the English. Maybe that is one reason no one seems to mind the Jack. Plus, that is a state flag, not a country flag. Let me say it one more time, no flag should fly in place of or above the American flag on American soil!

If you were here in AZ, you may feel differently. Even if they and their parents are legal, they feel it necessary to say that Americans need to let the illegals in without incident. At the highschool my son attends, the Mexican kids refuse to speak English (eventhough they can) and tell others to "Get used to it. This is Mexico." This race war will be far worse than the last one we all remember. I fear for my children at school. I do not know how it is where you live, but that is a tiny taste of how it is here...everyday.
