Mexican flag burned after week of protests

Tensions over immigration got a little heated Thursday in Apache Junction.

A Mexican flag was brought to school by a Hispanic student in response to what he said was a racist remark directed at him the day before. After he and other students raised the flag on the school's flagpole, the newspaper said another group of students took it down and burned it.

The burning and ensuing shoving match between the two groups of students happened before most students arrived at the school.

The school's principal said all six students involved will be disciplined.

Security was beefed up after the incident but there were no other problems at the school Thursday.

Who is going to expel them? Certainly not the principal, who if he is not one of "them: is terrified of doing anything that will cost him his job. Of course, if a school can prohibt tee-shirts that have political messages, they can certainly prohibit the exhibiting of flags. But is the will there? I doubt it.

The Mexican flag stands only for poverty, oppression, violence and corruption.

NO national flag other than the Stars and Stripes should ever be flown at the top of the mast of any Building, Monument or dwelling if it is funded by the US GOvernment whether wholly or partially!

All other national flags should be relegated to Second position, if flown at all.

Sadly now, if I understand everything correctly the American Flag that was flying must be given a proper burial since it wasnt handled by proper means and it was allowed to touch the ground.

The flag was not theirs. IMO they flag burners should be punished. If 'twere me punishing them, I'd say the cost of the flag and time served would be sufficient.

Agreed. I heard a caller on one of the talk shows say how proud Mexicans are of their heritage, how proud they are to be Mexicans. Why do they not stay in THEIR country and make it better if they are so proud? Here is the simple answer. They may be proud to be Mexicans, but they also see which country is giving the better opportunities. Oppressive govt with no economic future vs Subsidizing govt with many FREE benefits. Where would you go? They don't want to be Americans, they just want access to our unlimited free stuff. If Mexico had a thriving economy, they would not be coming here in droves.

They had to burn it. It would have been a desecration of the American flag the Mexicans took down not to burn it. Any flag that is raised in the place of an American Flag on American soil must never be allowed to be raised anywhere ever again.

I know this is all symbolic, but to take down the American flag and replace it with a foreign flag is an act of war. If this were the British flag or the Canadian Flag or the Swiss flag, it would make no difference. It would have to be burned. The quicker the better. Such a flag must never be allowed to be raised against the United States again.

We need to let these insurrectionsts know that we will not tolerate their acts of rebellion. If we don't, then we might as well just start raising the Mexican flag over all of Aztlan now, as the American flag means nothing and all those who died fighting for it died in vain.

We are better than this. Let la raza bring their wierdly colored flags... petty... our focus is the legal system making sure our country is not flooded with the 'flagbearers' themselves.

On a public school campus, you have no property. You learn that quickly. Anything you have on your person can be confiscated at a moment's notice.

That flag was impounded by Americans in response to it's use in a very hostile manner and was dutifully disposed of.

The invaders are fortunate they weren't arrested and their guardians deported.

Don't you think that, short of killing the boys who raised the Mex flag on the US flagpole, burning it is more than enough of a statement that we will not be invaded?
