Now showing on CSPAN 1
Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Censuring the President for NSA Surveillance
Baghdad Jim: Appeals Court rules against McDermott in taped call dispute
Hypocrites.
Feingold is in the room? Oh, goody. I'm typing and listening but not watching the screen.
"irresponsible and a disservice" to consider censure is what a Clinton official, named "Schmidt" said. Spector picks up on what else Schmidt said, "there's no evidence of bad faith" in Bush's actions.
Don't get me wrong on this. I do have a solution to dealing with al-Qaeda and the enemies of the United States |
and I'm very proud to see Spector treating John Dean with a certain amount of condescention, almost making fun of him.
Oh no Specter and Dean are both speaking !! I need a shower because they give the willies
Dean thinks it would have been a Godsend if congress had censured Nixon early on. The man is a complete idiot.
Don't you GET it? ;)
Specter asks Dean: Don't you think there has to be some case made of bad faith?
Dean: WHen I read Feingold's resolution and those whereas clauses, there is evidence of bad faith.
Specter: Aren't bad faith easier to define?
Dean: I don't recall bad faith being a prerequisite to censure. Had a censure resolution been issued about Nixon's conduct before it erupted to the degree, it would have been a God send.
Specter: Mr. Fine, you have testified that censure is not different than oversight. I have to disagree with you categorically. When we do oversight and make suggestions, I've never heard in an oversight hearing that someone should be censured. SOmetimes you hear the word shameful.
I believe the word you're looking for is "bitchslapped."
Specter: Mr. Fine, when you say that President Bush kept it secret, that's not so. He told the gang of 8. We have Rockefeller's letter that he wasn't extensively informed and didn't have a lawyer with him.
I chaired the Congress and was a member of the gang of 8 at that time and Clinton was in the WH and they didn't tell us very much. There is a lot of precedent for just informing the gang of 8.
I'm liking Spector, so far. I always get just a tad bit nervous on how that's going to go.
OT:
McKinney Delays News Conference
Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney planned to hold a news conference with her lawyer on Friday, but the original 11 a.m. time for it is supposedly being rescheduled, according to an aide in her office.

LOL. Oh, yeah :)
Trust these weasels with national security? SNORT.
Fein doesn't want spying to be secret apparently. Fein has such a squeaky little voice. I bet that's not all that's little about him.
Specter: Mr. Fine, wasn't the gang of 8 informed so there wasn't secrecy here? Don't you have a deep seated complex legal issue which at least gives the president basis for taking his position without taking him to task?
Fein: We don't have the information, if it exists, waht advice Bush received before commencing warrantless program. He's resisted giving you that info.
Second, with telling 8 members of Congress, that's not telling all members of Congress. If you're going to have accountability, you have to have it for more than one or 2 members. If you don't nkow how many people are being spied on, how can you make an assessment to its reasonableness.
Darn! I was looking forward to that press conference.
