House conservatives yesterday issued a dire warning to President Bush and Republican leadership that they will pay a devastating political price if they proceed with a guest-worker program or anything resembling amnesty for illegal aliens before securing the borders and enforcing existing immigration laws.
"They will remember in November," Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said of voters nationwide. "And many of those who have stood with our Republican majority in the last decade are not only angry, many of them plan to be absent from the polls" this year when the entire House and one-third of the Senate is up for re-election.

Yeah, but too bad they've got to be threatened with their jobs before they listen to constituents and enforce laws that are already on the books.

THE MEXICANS DO NOT WANT CITIZENSHIP, THEY WANT AN OPEN BORDER, SIMILAR TO THE EUROPEAN UNION. THEY WORK HERE AND GET THE BENEFITS AND CAN COME AND GO WHENEVER THEY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
You are so right!!!!!!!!
They feel secure now, but as more and more people demand they enforce the laws, they will get scared. Even Eddie Bernice Johnson is getting hit with calls from Democrats who are fed up.
If the criminals start trouble and don't get deported, the political class is ging to see a reaction they don't want to even think about. Then you will see something like the house bill pass with veto proof majorities before the election.
Nothing is sure right now. Everything hinges on what the criminals do and how mad the citizens get because of it.
We'll just have to wait and watch.
Yep

You're in a growing group.
My wife calls the Wal-Mart down from us Mexi-Mart. Its always flooded with Mexicans speaking nothing but Spanish.
I'd say you are wrong about Bush and immigration. Dead wrong, unforunately.
His poll rating are sinking among Republicans because of this issue, not going up.
Sometimes the light must be bright to see it. I would say this week has woke up lots of folks. I work with almost all liberals and they are against open borders being pushed by Bush.
Chinese control of Latin America through proxy governments. It's the old Soviet Communist "domino theory" come back to life.
Cheers!
#2 AGREE!
Did you catch Bush's live speech earlier this week when he talked about alternative energy sources and what they would mean to the "global economy...err, environment" ??
Freudian slip on his part. That together with the "Co prosperity sphere", (vanity here) have begun to convince me that the Trilateral Commission and other nutcases may be on to something.
Hint: read the link in the vanity first, it's from the White House website...
Cheers!
"His poll rating are sinking among Republicans because of this issue, not going up."
A poll just released a day or so ago found his approval rate to be 80% among Republicans. So go figure.
I for one am Republican-fatigued. I am so tired of these perdedores.
Ronald Reagan is remembered for being "The Great Communicator" and Bush will be remembered as "The Great Dufus".
"You're merely an acamedician"
I'm simply bedazzled by your post.
