When I met my wife, she proudly called herself a "liberal". Her father was a dyed-in-the-wool union man who carried the union's water all the way to his grave. Massachusetts. Explains a lot.
But in the 40 years that have passed since we met, she stopped being a liberal. Not because of anything I said, although I said a lot ";^) She matured. Some liberals never do.
Of course it didn't hurt any that we live in NH and always have since we got married, except for my time in the Marine Corps. And that we became real Christians during that time.

I don't have any links at the moment, the Inquirer and Daily News make you pay to look at anything more than a week old. Also, I may have misrepresented the facts...their editorial boards (probably) wouldn't criticise Swann for his race, but their columnists would and did. If I can find anything, I'll post them.

We have a couple free lefty papers, the Philadelphia Weekly and City Paper, that are hard-core libs (they publish Ted Rall and Tom Tomorrow for example) and I'm sure that they will come through as the election gets closer. Our only right-leaning paper, the Bulletin, is very hard to find these days...

In the meantime, I'm definitely pulling for Swann.

Have you ever tried http://www.bugmenot.com/

It gives you passwords for annoying log-in sites like NYT etc. It may work for the Times and Daily News as well, as long as you kind of know what you're looking for.

Well, get those books for her daughter, then. They were written by black men. John McWhorter's books are also worth reading. As an added bonus, neither McWhorter nor Richburg consider themselves conservatives, though Sowell most certainly is (actually, conservative libertarian). Heck, they are all well written and interesting so you should read them yourself, too, if you haven't. Maybe if you leave them around, your fiance will get interested enough to read one...

Also

The Post-Gazette is our major lefty rag here, but Swann being a former Steeler is getting leeway for the moment. The other paper is the Tribune-Review which is more fair and balanced (several of their writers are also freepers). We have a City Paper and some local college papers that are all the same as well.

The paper I'm going to start looking for is the Pittsburgh Courier, probably the oldest black newspaper in the country. I'd love to see what leftist blacks have to say about a successful black republican.
