There is a remarkably simple solution to the impasse with immigration reform. It involves a balance of recognition and respect of United States laws, along with the need for a reasonable process for dealing with the illegal immigrants.
First of all, all illegals currently in the country would have to sign a written document stating that they had broken the laws of the United States by entering the country. Those who wish to stay on as guest workers would be placed on probation for a period of three years, during which time they would be granted status as "conditional" guest workers. They would be required to report their location to the INS annually, and any other violations of U. S. or state laws could result in loss of status and deportation.
Those who successfully completed their probationary period would become official guest workers. Those who wish to apply for citizenship would be eligible, however, those applying legally from outside the country (who have not immigrated illegally) would have priority over those who entered the country illegally.
All employers would require illegals working for them to apply for conditional guest worker status (along with the required probation period). There would be fines for both the illegals and the employers who fail to initiate the guest worker application process.
This approach offers a road to amnesty which recognizes that an illegality occurred, a probationary period was served, and that illegal immigrants are not placed ahead of applicants who apply legally.
Absolutely. And it will encourage another 12 million to do the same darn thing.
And wake up to find our houses cost 30% more and our stock market is revalued at 40% of it's current value. These are the children affluent america couldn't be bothered to bear. First step to getting this fixed? Get off the high horse on the issue. We are reaping a big time benefit in the rate of inflation, our stock values, on and on. You'de think we've picked enough people to get into it with. When allowed to take control, the mullet contingent (ex-Perot knee jerks and Reagan revolution trailer parkers) tends to shoot itself and the Republican party squarely in the stones.
Get those immigrants off my lawn! The immigrants are here because we like it that way.

AS I indicated yesterday, the illegals must pay a price for jumping the line
a) they sign up for remediation; if they don't sign up by a given date, and are caughty, they are deported and all of their possessions are confiscated and sold.
b) when it is their turn, they do 1 to 2 years of community service where they learn English and US History. During service time, they live in US Army tents or barracks and are fed US Army food. They can quit the community service at any time, but will be deported and are not eligible to get into line for migration.
c) When they successfully complete their service, they can get a green card, and be eligible for citizenship.
Beret? barrette err.
A man after my own heart. A non-Humpback moment if you will...small disclaimer there ya understand.
It's not immigration. As the cartoon illustrates it's an insurgency.
LoL... exactly.. Fine the employers,, and they would sneak BACK across the border all by themselves.. like they already do at christmas time.. ADD.. fining the people renting to them.. then, "its hard out there for the coyote", would be the new RAP song.. if "song" can used freely..
We have the world's most open immigration system (way too open in my opinion). We have Ports of Entry where anyone with a visa or passport from accepted nations can enter lawfully. We have so many different types of temporary visa programs it takes an attorney to sort it all out for someone - but there's almost always a way in. There is NO NEED for a "guest worker" amnesty, there is no reason to "be nice" to the citizens of Mexico and hand over citizenship in this country just because they say they want it. And there is no reason to do ANYTHING but enforce our existing laws.
And most of all, I will NOT be ruled in the country my family fought and died for by people who had NOTHING to do with the establishment and development of that country, on the contrary, people who have done and are doing EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to tear down the greatest human achievment in history: the United States of America.
actually it's not propaganda. wages would shoot through the roof short term. long term or goods would be left on the shelf for lack of customers. Al Greenspan liked illegal aliens. A lot.
The very first step is to secure the borders. After that's been done, then we can talk about the rest of it.
It'll be a bum rush for the borders like we've never seen (and today it's as bad as it's EVER been - times 4) if we don't get LOTS of bodies and technology down there RIGHT NOW as we build the fences - as soon as the shamnesty is put upon us.
I imagine the conversations circa 1855 about eliminating slavery sounded much the same. "I beg to ask you, sir - how will the agricultural economy survive emancipation of the Negro?"
We don't have enough people to keep them from entering the country; who's going to round up all these illegals and toss them out?
Probably, but not necessarily, it depends on the interpretation of All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, . The children of foreign diplomats and foreign military personnel do not acquire citizenship if born in the US. An argument can be made, and legislation crafted, that children of legal temporary workers and certainly illegals are in similar circumstances with regard to jurisdiction. The courts might well be a problem.

thats just the price we are going to have to pay...if you make a mint selling drugs why should you be amazed that you lose all of your ill gotten gains
Importing people as slaves was a mistake.
Importing people as the menial laborer was a mistake.
Not much to differentiate the two. Neither had legal standing. We are to blame. Us. Not them. Us. Just like slavery. and you thought no one would ever point to your generation as you have to the gentried one and ask, what were they thinking??
Would these illegals receive preferential treatment and be favored over those aliens obeying our immigration laws and waiting for entrance legally....some over ten years at this point?....
I don't think you suggestion is either rational or fair for that reason alone.
