Lou Dobbs Wins Viewers in Opposing Illegal Immigration
NY Times ^ | 3/29/06 | BILL CARTER and JACQUES STEINBERG

Posted on 03/30/2006 7:53:51 AM PST by Dr. Scarpetta

Lou Dobbs, the nation's most prominent opponent of current immigration policy, began his day yesterday on the "Today" show on NBC, debating a Hispanic defender of illegal immigrants. He moved on to "American Morning" on CNN to denounce a bill passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday as "an amnesty program."

On the CNN morning show Dobbs called the Senate bill "an unconscionable act" and "a sellout." He appeared again on CNN's midday "Live From..." program, saying, "I think illegal immigrants are a burden to the taxpayer, unequivocally."

This followed by just a day a confrontation between Mr. Dobbs and a guest on his own program, Janet Murguia, the president of the Hispanic civil rights group National Council of La Raza, during which he lectured her on immigration policy.

If that's supposed to be some sort of defense of the Administration's current image, then that's pretty disappointing. We're talking about our country here, the United States of America. It's important to a lot of us out here. We think borders mean something to our integrity as a nation. You're not required to agree with all that, but you should at the least try to understand it. We wonder how it is that we find ourselves seriously debating about whether our President should try to defend our borders.

Then why did you throw in your little snide reference to Katrina, which was handled as well as could be expected by Homeland Security, given the pathetic on-the-ground leadership in Louisiana?

Your two previous posts were DNC talking points.

Yours is the first comment on the thread to this point that makes sense. You are right. Lou Dobbs is not a liberal, is not a moron, and is not ignorant of international economics.

LOL....good pic.

Dobbs has been at this for a long time......way before the mobs took to the streets waving Mexican flags.

He is not a recent convert by any means.

The President himself has acknowledged deficiencies in Homeland Security's Katrina response. Michael Brown is gone for a reason. I mentioned the Katrina response only to point out that these things add up in the public's perception of Bush as a leader. A more or less complete collapse of our border defenses does not help his image at this time. Again, all this stuff about country, patriotism and borders may not ring any bells for you and I don't want to be critical of you personally for whatever views you may want to hold, but I do think you should try to understand that for a lot of us, this stuff about country, patriotism and borders is very important. Just try to understand, that's all. You don't have to agree.

Keep reading. There are others although many are quick to paint Lou as a liberal merely because he is on CNN. This is in spite of his consistantly conservative opinions he has express over the years.

Lou Dobbs has been great on this issue and others. I see the "Pres. Bush is my god" crowd has shown up to trash Mr. Dobbs.

I bet if Pres. Bush wanted to sell the Southwestern United States back to Mexico, these "Pres. Bush is my god" crowd would cheer him on. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil....even while Rome burns!

You will notice that the people that attack Buchanan so ferociously also do not appear to be pro-sovereign America...

Not that I am a big fan of Buchanan, but disregard what some have said on here about him, they can't be trusted.

Lou Dobbs is the only reason to watch CNN, and he certainly has many (paleo) conservative views.

Actually, I am Ted Turner, I used to be able to buy and sell you a hundred times over, but now I can only do so 25 times. If Dobbs is selling himself out for ratings=money, what is McCain, Bush, Kennedy et al doing? They sell the country out for a hoped for voter base, and cheaper labor. This illegal immigration debate is all about lies, if this administration was honest about their plans, they would build a border fence or wall, deport all illegals within our justice system, then talk about making it easier to become "documented". The reason so many sound radical is, we know there will be a compromise solution, the best deal that can be had must be the goal, not getting along.

Uh-huh. No attacks, pal. No attacks.

Well, it sure as hell isn't because of our border enforcement.

"It may be, but realize that my experience is likely multiplied thousands of times a day, all over the country."

I could tell you about my experiences with many customers of mine here in FFLD county that have had their businesses hammered into oblivion by scumbag tax cheating employers who hire illegls and can then under-bid LEGAL legit businesses....and......" realize that my experience is likely multiplied thousands of times a day, all over the country."

Nice to finally see who's side of the law you're on there Amigo
