Can you imagine if some white conservative US rep had been accused of assaulting an underling? The outcry would be deafening and that person would probably have to resign. The protected left wing class of officeholders can get away with anything though.

The officer should have subdued her with appropriate force, placed her in hand cuffs, called for backup and taken her away to jail. Last time I checked, assault on a police officer was a felony as is resisting arrest, which I'm sure she would have committed once being placed under arrest.

Why don't congresspeople have to walk through metal detectors? Some of them are the craziest people I know of.

I think that needs to go now. Why on earth can our representatives ignore security that the rest of us commoners have to tolerate? The same reason they don't have to take drug tests or anything else that applies to the rest of us.

If I didn't know better, the photo looks like a woman strung out on crack. Yes, I think someone already pointed out her resemblance to Whitney Houston.

Last time I checked, assault on a police officer was a felony as is resisting arrest, which I'm sure she would have committed once being placed under arrest. Unfortunately, the one part of the US Constitution that every congresscritter has committed to memory is Article I. Section 6: ".... They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Sessions of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same;"
Also, unfortunately they have substituted the word "including" for the word "except" in common application of this item.

One reason she wasn't recognized. She should be arrested. You can't hit a cop even you're a Rabies case congressman/woman

I would say that assaulting a police officer probably qualifies as breach of the peace.

The Capitol Hill cops couldn't arrest her at the time because she was protected by the Constitution. However, the CHP most certainly *can* arrest her when she's not in "Attendance at the Sessions of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same." It's a smart move on the CHP's part to wait.
I guarantee that they have video from multiple angles with sound -- and I can't wait to see it.

I would say that assaulting a police officer probably qualifies as breach of the peace. The Capitol Hill Police aren't going to play it that way, though. If they believed that what she was doing was a breach of the peace, they'd have arrested her at the time.
The Constitution protects Congresscritters from being arrested while going to or from Congress while it's in session, or from being arrested while in session. It is NOT complete immunity while Congress is in session, although it's been interpreted that way in the past for relatively minor offenses like speeding, etc. She's being arrested while NOT attending session, or traveling to/from session, but arrested for a crime that happened while she was traveling to/from session.
