"I don't need to be stopped or questioned because I happen to look like hired help." Oh what's she complaining about? After all Madeline Halfbright was mistaken for a cleaning lady.

""I am absolutely sick and tired of having to have my appearance at the White House validated by white people," McKinney wrote in a complaint to then-President Bill Clinton. "I don't need to be stopped or questioned because I happen to look like hired help.""
Racist beyach.

After reading the several posts and also having had experience with a security force at a large facility with a host of VIPs, I can only say that Congressman McKinney is proving that she lives at the height of total pretention to think every Capitol Police officer on every day can recognize immediately every member of congress.
Not wearing the label pin or having the courtesy to have their Congressional ID handy sends the signal - "Hey You, I am so important that you must recognize me on the spot every time even when I am going to great lengths to change my appearance.
Most guys hardly recognize their own wives after they have had a beauty makeover, so get over it.

It doesn't make sense to me. My husband is an attorney, and there are many courthouses (even county ones) which require id checks, scans of briefcases and bags, etc. Why should the Capitol have less security? Most of the guards probably know the attorneys who regularly practice in the court... but they still do the checks.

D'ya think that she thinks of herself as a public servant?
"I don't need to be stopped or questioned because I happen to look like hired help."
Or was elected to a title of nobility? Democracy is the rule of fools by fools. She in no way rules me.

The officer either tapped McKinney on the shoulder or grabbed her arm, they said. McKinney spun around and struck the officer, though there are conflicting reports about whether she slapped him, punched him in the chest or hit him with a cellphone she had in her hand, they said.
I wonder what would happen if I took a swing at the officers guarding our Capital? Hummmm I wonder?

If the cop had punched her is there any doubt that he would have been locked up by now.

She should be arrested and jailed for assault. That's the least we "little people" would get. If I struck an officer, I would get: a beating, a couple shots of the taser, a cuffing with the customary broken arm, then arrest and jail.

Thank you.
I'm a female manufacturer in a relatively male dominated industry. I attended a business convention years ago with an engineer that works for me. Equipment manufacturing vendors had booths set up in a large facility and my engineer and I visited and viewed the latest in tractor trailers, laser equipment, and the like. At nearly every booth the rep addressed my engineer rather than me when making his sales pitch. Frankly, I thought it was funny and was in no way insulted. It provided me with a opportunity to look at everything closely without the distraction of the "hard sale".
McKinney is just attempting to divert the attention from her uncouth behavior with this "hired help" excuse.

Why should the Capitol have less security? You are correct. Everyone should have to go through the metal detectors, including congressmen/women. How easy it would be for someone to counterfeit a pin and get waved on, bypassing security.

How easy it would be for someone to counterfeit a pin and get waved on, bypassing security. Well, since McKinney admits to not wearing her pin, we really don't know who is in possession of it, do we? No need to counterfeit. Was she the one who gave Sheehan a ticket to the SOTU address?

Too bad the guard didn't get to Taze her. I would have paid to see that...Ditto.
