Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

Working hard and getting paid nothing. That's a compassionate immigration program

See reply #856, neo-marxist.

"But don't go claiming that "nothing" has been done."

Nothing substantial has been done, only cosmetic politics.

Nice spin. I am opposed to US employers employing illegals to undercut wages. Not quite the same as being anti-business.

Okay fine, then I guess you have no problem if I propose a law that new roofs being put on houses has a floor price of $50,000(i.e no contractor can charge under $50,000).

Afterall it's only "fair".

Thanks. I appreciate the slaps upside the head from so many today. I seem to be getting the Senate's wobbly knee syndrome lately.

I just hate to see FR get divided into groups of opposing views, into a heated debate on an issue that might be debated rationally, if not for a few Rat trolls pressing some hot buttons.

I'm still not through reading to the end of this thread, but that is one of the more sane comments I've come across so far.

OK Troll, time to answer since all you're here to do is Bush Bash.

What bill did Bush sign to give them AMNESTY?

"Nothing substantial has been done, only cosmetic politics."

The sheer number of illegal aliens in this country, increasing substantially year over year, would tend to undermine any argument to the contrary as well.

We already have poor people in this country who need to get off the dime and take the work instead. What's happening now is that we are getting too many illegals and a growing, lazy poor that won't get away from government subsidies

Well gee instead of getting mad at people working everyday doing good things(such as cleaning toilets, picking food, and building buildings), maybe you should direct your animus at those living off the public dole.

This is uniting the country, it's one of the only subjects that 80% of the people agree on. The only people it's dividing is the Bush-Bots from the rest of the country.

>>>>It didn't work, because it didn't address the problem.

Wrong. It did address the problem. I've explained it to you twice now. For some reason you don't get it.

Amnesty is not the answer. Border enforcement and employer sanctions are the answer and with roughly 80% of Americans and 84.1% of FReepers supporting those actions, you're in the minority on this issue.

"Nothing substantial has been done, only cosmetic politics."

Yet another instance where your claims must be corrected (a bad sign).

"The president cited a 66 percent increase in border-security funding since he took office, along with a 42 percent increase in interior-enforcement spending and a total of 6 million illegal aliens caught and returned home."

I was labelled a white trash xenophobe during the DP World nightmare, so I'll just stick with that, if it's OK with you, lol.
