Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

This will all be forgotten by November even if they give amnesty to all illegals. It is only March and we have a long way to go. Remember Reagan did it and we still won in 1988. Why is everyone so negative. If they give in and give amnesty, it will not be on radar in November. People barely remember the port deal and that was last month.

The rule about pinging other people that you mention has always seemed silly to me but is apparently a real rule around here. It isn't as if the "victim" can't read the same post that everybody else is reading. But nevertheless, there is always some schoolyard snitch type who will ping that poster for you, along with a nagging admonishment for not following the rules. I think the rule is mainly used now as a pretense for getting folks suspended.

You are right. Watch your back.

And yet you, Junior and Shapka (or whatever his current screen name is) are still here. Hmmmm.

Howlin, we've obviously failed in our diabolical scheme to have the rude children suspended or banned. That's it! I'm stopping my $750 monthly to FR immediately!

With all this going wrong, it's amazing we're still alive.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was fighting in the soup line for extra bread.

I just got back from Wendy's and had to ask the car in front of me if they could spare 10 dimes?

Then correct me if I'm mistaken, but, isn't McCains policies the same as Bush's? On which policy did they not agree on? If you don't know of any, then why the hypocrisy and double standard? You call McCain a treasonous bastard.

I'm not talking about itty bitty things like the cost of postage stamps going up. Or, which is better, black or brown socks. I'm talking about the policies that have a major impact on our country.

Based on your answer to me earlier you don't agree with everything the president does and don't think he walks on water.

Ah, but you THOUGHT I did before you "grilled" me, didn't you?

Maybe you're wrong about the others, too?

BTW, I am still puzzled by that NC Freeper remark; I don't agree with some of them on some issues, but I agree with most of them on other issues; still, we have CIVIL discussions without name calling and trashing. Why do you feel the need to smear the people who don't agree with you with words like "menopausal" and "socialist?"

I surely hope you're not throwing around the word "housewife" as some sort of slam. Yeah, I am one, but I worked for years so I wouldn't have to work now. What the deal with sneering at housewives?

The ones who do get my contempt.

I'd love to know who those people are. I betcha Laura Bush doesn't even meet those criteria. Not that any of us for one second believe you objectively measure such criteria before assigning "Bushbot" or "menopausal" labels. Heck, I at least wait until I smell gunpowder before pouring your concrete for ya!

I think there's a way to get this all done right, but I don't know if it could pass, because it would be expensive.

You start building a serious border fence, at least on the southern border, and maybe at least parts of the northern border.

You announce a guest worker program, which can be applied for over the next year or so. The guest worker program provides:

However, in order to qualify, applicants would be required to apply in person at an embassy or other special office in their country of origin. This would encourage illegals to "deport" themselves.

To obtain a card, an applicant would also have to provide proof of identity, and pass criminal background and health screenings.

At the end of the three years, guests could either return to their country of origin, or take an examination on English and U.S. history and culture, to obtain a permanent visa. If they got that, then in another three years, they could take a tougher examination and apply for citizenship.

Meanwhile, the fence is completed, and the border crackdown deters additional illegals. And then you'd have to weed out the illegals that remained in the country, because more than likely, they would have criminal records. And obviously crack down on employers.
