Time Magazine's Michael Ware from Baghdad (has embeded himself with al-Qaeda in Iraq)
Radio Blogger ^ | March 28 2006

HH: Joining me now live from Baghdad is Michael Ware, bureau chief for Time Magazine. Michael, welcome to the Hugh Hewitt Show.

HH: Have you spent time with the jihadis?

MW: I have. I have. It's certainly not something that's simple to do at any time, particularly now. However, in the past, though, I have actually been with Zarqawi's organization on different occasions. I once was taken to a Zarqawi training camp, although I was not told that that's where I was going, or for quite a while, that that's where I was. I've been to some of their safe houses.

HH: My last question. Zarqawi.

MW: Yeah.

HH: He was there before the war began. He had come back and forth to Afghanistan. In your dealings with the insurgents, had they dealt with him prior to the war?

MW: No. I did uncover some documents, however, that referred to his presence, here in some form. Now it seemed to be covert and unofficial, and one can only guess. However, I did receive a document written by one of his right hand men, a man who was killed in 2004 by a U.S. JDAM in his vehicle, who wrote an after action report of the first battle of Fallujah, in the course of which he said well, you know, Abu bil-Bloggs (phonetic spelling) was killed at this point. You know Abu bil-Bloggs. He was one who saw Zarqawi in Baghdad before the war.

HH: Oh, that's interesting. I missed that one. I have to go back and find that. That's a very significant find.

This bothers the living dickens out of me. I too have questions for Michael Ware.

Michael Ware, I ask where are the enemy positions?

Michael Ware, if this was WWII would you also be fraternizing with the Nazi's?

Michael Ware, how does it feel fraternizing with Jihadists that want to kill infidels and American soldiers?

Michael Ware, Do you understand the enemy has used you like Tokyo Rose?

This just rubs me really wrong and I dont think I'm out of line.

Now I cannot begin to tell you how much the American people, not to mention the Brits and the Aussies back home, have been significantly misled about the nature of the enemy.

Thats right Michael, if it wasn't for us big bad Americans and Australians, every one in the Middle East would be singing kumbaya and wearing flowers in their hair.

HH: I'm really fascinated by the question of whether or not it's ever good journalism to consort with the enemy in search of interesting stories. And there's not denying, Michael, where you get scoops. It's fascinating to read. You've got a great deal of courage, of physical courage, in doing this. So no one's denying that. I'm just wondering whether or not there's a line that you have in your mind reconciled yourself to crossing not once, but scores and scores of times, to report on the enemy, and whether or not that's a good thing. And you think it is, I think I hear you saying, because the public will not otherwise know what it is that you're reporting. Is that a fair summary?

MW: That is fairly accurate, and let's look at it this way. I mean, you're sitting back in a comfortable radio studio, far from the realities of this war.

HH: Actually, Michael, let me interrupt you.

MW: If anyone has a right...

HH: Michael, one second.

MW: If anyone has a right to complain, that's what...

HH: I'm sitting in the Empire State Building. Michael, I'm sitting in the Empire State Building, which has been in the past, and could be again, a target. Because in downtown Manhattan, it's not comfortable, although it's a lot safer than where you are, people always are three miles away from where the jihadis last spoke in America. So that's...civilians have a stake in this. Although you are on the front line, this was the front line four and a half years ago.

Oh, I love it. A little media pissing match about who's in more danger.

Michael Ware is a bonehead and his "mission" sickens me.

Do you know if Hugh Hewitt's radio show plays in the DC area. I listen to Rush when I can and Laura. However, Hannity is becoming so bad that I can no longer listen to him. I would love to listen to Hewitt instead. He seems to have substantive discussions and very interesting guests whom he confronts nicely, but firmly, like this idiot.

In the course of describing the various meetings he's had with the enemy: "I mean, on three occasions, I was present when a discussion took place about whether I should be killed or sold, or goodness knows what else, and my fate has rested in their hands while they talk about this around me in a language I don't understand."

Uh, if you don't understand the language, Mike, how do you know they were talking about killing of selling you?

If I thought he was religious, I would wonder if he was trying to set himself up as a Joseph figure (whose brothers threw him into a well and discussed whether to kill or sell him).

Reminding myself...

THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: Article III: Section 3: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court. The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted."

The attitude of many American reporters is similar to Ware's. Scott Pelley of NBC spent time with terrorists in Iraq and either wrote an article about it or made some sort of film. When questioned about his patriotism in consorting with the enemy, he snorted that as a reporter, he was not bound by simple rules of patriotism and loyalty to a particular country. I think the lash ought to be used on these people. And then a few of them hung. Imagine if some reporter-nut had done that during WWII. He would have been shot on sight.

Thanks. I feel bad that I'm so negative about Hannity since I know he does a lot for the soldiers.

I tried to listen to him going home from work this week and could only listen a few minutes.

Me, me, me, shootout, let's talk about me. Alec Baldwin, me. Me, me, construction worker me, I betcha Hollywood stars are talking about me.

HH seems much more substantive and issue focused.

A little media pissing match about who's in more danger.

Exactly. Hewitt avoids confrontation of Ware's treason by implying he's brave for simply being in NYC. Well, how about the millions of people who live and work there every day, Hugh? Not because they're particularly brave, but because they need to eat, pay the rent and support their families? Those that don't have book sales and a law degree and political pals to fall back on?

But, hey, Hewitt can't afford to really tick off his media pals, no matter how vile their behavior; he wouldn't want to get kicked out of the club or have to scramble for radio guests.

American reporters are only nominally US citizens. They actually belong to a super class of world wide citizens known as the International Socialist Elites. They are the ones who should be running the world and they consist of media, political class in Europe, legal system in Europe and US.

The American reporters admire their European counterparts, but must tone down their anti-Americanism because of the hicks reading their nonsense at home.

They sit around the hotels in Baghdad and talk to the international left friends and send out their Batthisst stringers to report the news and that's why we have the junk we have.
