Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.
Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

exactly why it's dangerous
I haven't been this digusted with a President since Bill Clinton was in office.
Re your #8 -
"..They sure don't like weilding the majority club they have now."
And whenever they try to, there are always a few RINOs hanging on to it to make sure that it does not hurt any of their pals on the other side.
Bears repeating (over and over)
How many do you want?
CFR??????
Drug Bill?
Illegals?
That's hilarious. Conservatives have swallowed Bush's rampant spending, his increase in federal involvement in education, his Medicare expansion, his refusal to use the veto pen to curb earmarks, his $15 billion in AIDS assistance to Africa, and his signing of McCain-Feingold - for starters.
And still voted for him in 2004. But all along they have said, no amnesty.
And now that Bush is parsing the word amnesty, you have the gall to say that we are complaining "the minute something doesn't go their way?"
That is the biggest pantload in this current debate. We HAVE stuck by Bush despite his continual sellout of core conservative vales. And we warned him about amnesty and border security. This isn't like the ports deal which was a surprise issue. This has been festering for YEARS. And now Bush and the moderates in the GOP are deciding that once again we will accept having core positions trampled upon.
And if we bolt, pinheads like you will blame us instead of tone-deaf pubbie politicians - just as y'all blame the voters for Clinton instead of blaming Pappa Bush for reneging on his campaign promise of no new taxes.
We've shown we can accept compromise. We will not, however, accept total capitulation on such a critical issue.
Where do you live? Every republican I know to a person is literally disgusted with the GOP right now. Don't blame it on the MSM, that's an excuse.
The GOP has shown us that they are suicide slow while the RATS are suicide fast.
BTW, how did you spend your tax cut?
To be honest, I spent it on increased fuel costs and increased local taxed.
No, it's always our fault. We're fair weather Republicans because this one thing isn't going our way.
Of course, they fail to mention that we still voted for Bush in 2004 despite his record on spending, education, and entitlements. They conveniently forget that. For political hacks, it's all about blaming the ungrateful base instead of listening to the base. The base is ignorant. We just don't understand the sophisiticaion of modern politics. We need to accept our role as automatic votes, just like blacks in the Democratic Party, so the GOP can continue to veer leftward in hot pursuit of swing voters.
And put some ice on it.
gopers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not.
Ok..................I'm out.
Again, its funny how you OBL types talk down the average American and worsip at the altar of the dollar.
What was done before these people came here? Were toilets cleaned? Were crops picked? Were lawns cut?
I would gladly pay more for lettuce to have all the related costs with illegals gone. That's a fair bargain to me.
You are disgusting. You advocate for slave labor so you can eat cheap lettuce. God forbid Americans make more money at the expense of your precious salad.
Don't bother, to many on FR, they worship the dollar and would sell this countr for a peso if given the opportunity.
How did the party get so screwed up?
All I had to do is look at your homepage to know where you are coming from.
The old adage remains true: Those can do; do. Those who can't . . . teach.
All these theories and nonsense you spout may seem fine in a vacuum, but fall by the wayside as soon as they hit the light and air.
So, on what side of this issue do you fall?
It is hard to beleive "conservatives" can be so bitter, destructive and stupid. But we have seen it before and we will see it again. Hillary is president, or when the Democrat Senate passes a bunch of nasty UN treaties and starts turning the wheels for banning guns and nationalizing health care, then these will be the folks who come here and screech about the end of the world. It's all or nothing - immediate gratification. They would rather than nothing than some. Hopefully they are a small minority because I don't want the democrats in charge of the senate and I don't want Hillary anywhere near the White House even though I am not happy at all with Republican spending and Bush's immigration solutions and vision.
You are hitting on ALL cylinders with your posts on this thread.
Lol, keep up the good work!
So your brilliant is idea to welcome in millions of new RAT voters?
And their families??????
Go back to teaching, you obviously are brain dead.
You forgot the First Amendment via CFR...
