Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.
Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

You have a very short memory which seems to not stretch beyond 1994. Seems to be a typical trait of the GOP elites.
Too bad Bush will be remembered for getting the ME transformed and fixing the borders. And they bitchers will be remembered for bitching. LOL
Go to hell Bushbot!
Dont forget he admitted that as president it would be his DUTY to veto McCain/Finegold. Obviously, politics trumped his sworn duty.
the base ain't mad. Just a portion of the base. A much larger portion realizes how important it is to retain control and not let traitors run the country.
That's an easy accusation to make. However, He has done more to fulfill his campaign promises than anyother POTUS we've had while fighting a war.
BTW, how did you spend your tax cut? Who else has put Conservs on the SCOTUS? If he had the line-item veto you would have seen many vetoes at his desk. It's hard to veto a necessary bill just because there's pork in it.
You can't sell out to something you never bought into in the first place.
I think that is a mischaracterization. I only have 12 AK-47s.
Don't forget that B.S. response to the affirmative action lawsuit.
They do it every time
It's like an old broken record
Another mature freeper....
I'll tell you what. I no longer give a damn if all these so-called Freepers stay home next election. Let 'em sulk. In my opinion, President Bush has done a terrific job. His immigration plan is really the only realistic approach to this problem. There is no politica will in this country to round up and deport illegal aliens (in spite of the absolute glee such a prospect raises among the extremists in this forum).
I have quite a bit of optimism regarding the Republican Party, even if we lose some seats this fall. It won't bother me a bit if McCain wins the nomination, picks Condi for his running mate, and cruises to victory in 08.
Actually, Bush always gave me concern. And that concern has been justified as he went against conservative positions in many areas. Just because he campaigned on them, it doesn't mean I agreed with them - but the Dems didn't give us any other choice.
But amnesty is the line in the sand - the position for which a very large number of conservatives are not willing to accept a sellout of their values, not matter what else is on the table. Bush has been warned - time and time again. This isn't the ports deal, which sprung unexpectedly and spiralled out of control as a result. This has always been waiting in the wings - and now Bush has tried to parse his way out of the fact that he would sign an amnesty bill.
It is BECAUSE of GWB that the house (good) and senate (bad) are moving on the issue.
Cart before horse. If Bush had said I will veto any bill that remotely resembles amnesty, the Senate would not have passed the bill they did.
Now we conservatives need to stick together and push hard for the best possible version.
No, we've tried that for the last five years and gotten our prinicples shoved down our throats. Time for a different approach - either do better or risk losing votes.
Now YOU are the one that is speaking kooky.
It is only misplaced if we elect democrats. Then all bets are off. We need to stamp out regimes that support these dirtballs, and one sure way not to have that happen is if you let the GOP fall.
Yeppurs to that one as well.
You have a very short sighted view of the future, which seems to not stretch beyond your own nose. Seems to be a typical trait of banjo pickin' bozos.
You wanna call names? I can do that too.
"Go to hell Bushbot!"
What a man you must be.
You don't consider helping Dems take over the Congress and the Presidency a sellout of conservative principles?
McCain said Bush seems happy with what's happening. For once he may be telling the truth.
