RNC Memo Warns GOPers Not To Distance Themselves From Bush
The Hotline (National Journal) ^ | March 28, 2006

Posted on 03/28/2006 7:52:53 PM PST by Karl Rand

Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.

Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

If that is true, then is it your opinion that Bill Clinton did a great job against Islamic terrorists, there not having been a terrorist attack here from March 1993 to September 2001?

Stick to the subject (for starters) - Furthermore, NO Bill Clinton did not take the fight to these enemies, killing them by the thousands, removing them from power in Stan and Iraq, bringing free elections to over 50 million + people, ect, ect.

These guys want to hit us here in the "homeland" (States) so bad you can't imagine (because of all I listed above)...that they haven't speaks volumes.

Apples and oranges compared to what you are speaking to above.

If you think bringing drugs across the border is anything like bringing WMDs

A ton of dope weighs less than a ton of WMDs. It's science!

Bush the Elder's breaking of his campaign promise is what gave us Bill Clinton. Quit blaming the conservative voter for having the temerity to have conservative positions on issues and not vote for a pubbie who betrayed those positions.

Yeah. A bunch of cluless crybabies went off and voted for the jug-eared billionaire, giving us Bill Clinton. Don't try to change history, dirtboy.

It was the unappeaseables who, realizing their mistake, came crawling back in 1994.

If the GOP loses the House because of you unappeaseables later this year, I'm going to be down your throat on every post you make bellyaching about that loss.

"People who suggest putting the trash of Democrats in office as a favor for what this CIC has done (with all the arrows he has taken for not only National Security but for the Conservative movement...and done so with nothing but class and leadership)....that there are those of you who suggest it will "serve him right" to have Democrats in control of congress.....You people are of the same disgusting ilk as the trash of the Democratic leadership today."

My sentiments exactly.

I did not say the entire base...I said a large portion.

It was large enough to send Pat Dewine a message, and it will be large enough to send the GOP a message in November. Does not have to be a large portion.
It will either be a satay at home portion or it might be a "throw the bums" out portion. It's too early t tell.

Is turning America into Oaxaca your idea of 'winning' ? If that is the game plan it does not matter in the least who has 'won'. We've lost.

Go after the employers and we'll be paying 15 bucks for a head of lettuce.
even if that was true we'd make up for it inthe billions spent on illegals milking the system , schools, abusing hospital emergency rooms , welfare ,not to mention the %30 prison population who are illegals.

Actually , you can drive a tank across the border in may places and no one would know. you don't see that as a big problem?

Lets see a foreign Tank drive into America. K? When has this ever happened? How long would it stay functioning?

There is more happening at our borders then is talked about. That is the reality. Just like the NSA leaked surveillance program we had going.

"Tired, false, lame."

Not according to the business people I've heard talk about this. I agree with those that say that there aren't enough Americans willing to take most of the jobs done by immigrants. Not without health care and paid vacations.

"push hard for the best possible version"

Your best possible version was Harriet Miers.

A lot of us disagreed and got a much "better version" in Alito

"Republicans have proven that when they control the House, the Senate, and the Presidency that they will drive the country over the cliff with support for illegal immigration and uncontrolled spending."

House passed budget cuts and Democrats opposed it, wanting bigger spending; they passed immigration reform without amnesty and Democrats opposed it.

"I prefer to have President Cheney with a chastened Republican minority in the House, that remembers WHY they got the boot."

What an idiotic view. The media has a template for that story.
it's "GOP not liberal enough, people reject conservatives"
... conservatives lose when republicans lose.

They'll just explain that it was all "Bush's fault", same mantra as the Dems.

Someone already said that it was GHW Bush's fault, that their votes for Perot gave us Clinton.

You're a rocket scientist if that is actually your argument / position -

Just be thankful real adults are in charge and sleep well. No use for further discussion with you. Your post speaks volumes.

"therefore sacrificing Seoul to invade them was not a viable option."

As much as I hate to say it, Seoul isn't an American city; Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicaco, Washingon DC, Miami, Dallas, Baltimore, and other such potential targets of North Korea's nuclear arsenal are. North Korea is headed by a group of nutjobs, the leader of which is especially insane. Leaving them in possession of nuclear weapons and allowing them to continue work on developing the means to deliver them to US cities is what's truly not a viable option. We tried negotiation in 1994 and that produced nothing but empty and broken promises. We've tried it again since 2002 to no avail. Nuclear weapons production continues in North Korea, and work on the Tae-po Dong III (ICBM) continues. In a few years, attacking North Korea will result in the loss of several US cities and tens of millions of US citizens. The sooner we deal with North Korea in the only effective way possible, the sooner we head off an imminent threat that's orders of magnitude greater than Saddam could have hoped to be within his lifetime.

"And waiting for Saddam and Iran to get Nukes is crazy."

They're/were several years away from having them. They're/were at least a decade or more away from having the means to deliver them to US cities (unless they purchase said means from a black market dealer like North Korea). North Korea has them now. Better to deal with North Korea before they can deliver them to US cities than to hit the little guys first.

"And Iraq WILL be a long term ally."

Yeah, just like Saudi Arabia...

"Had we just crushed the taliban and left, the Iranians or some other pestilence would have filled the void. Are there parts of the country that are not fully up to speed...sure. But the Afghan army is being trained and they are wiping the remnants of taliban up very well, with our help."

It wasn't lawless elements of Afghanistan that were about to hang a Christian convert; it was the government of Afghanistan, put together with the help of the US, acting within its written and adopted constitution. They'd be no worse off with Iran at the helm.

Why not pay more for lettuce? You are paying more for Big Oil Gasoline.

You're the one claiming that weapons can't be smuggled across our open southern border like the tons of dope that cross daily.

"And it was conveniently leaked and splashed to all the papers that Bush wanted"

I'm sorry, I was reacting to publicly stated comments by the President of the United States who stated in no uncertain terms that if the US Congress put an assault weapons banning bill on his desk, he would sign such a bill into law.

Were you reacting to 'unnamed sources within the Bush administration'?

So, by taking illegal immigrants out of the labor force, it will add $12 per head of lettuce in labor costs?

BTW, I live in Salinas, Ca the salad bowl of the earth. As I drive to work, it looks like they pick more than one head of lettuce per hour.

don't take the tank analogy so literally. it was to make a point. The real point is that most great civilizations have fallen because of a watering down of language and culture.Allowing illegals to flood this country is the start of it . This will be a turning point in US history I'm afraid.
