(Nutley-WABC, March 28, 2006) - It appears parts of a cargo plane fell from the sky. Tim Fleischer is in Nutley with the story. Some very, very scary moments for a Nutley New Jersey family. They actually did not hear the piece that fell on their sidewalk, but it still came dangerously closes to their home.

Bob Suchocki, Nutley Resident: "Well, I guess this is where it fell originally."

Bob Suchocki has the pictures to prove it. A piece, about three by four feet long fell right on the front lawn narrowly missing his house.

And that's why the DC-10/MD-11 doesn't fly passengers anymore.

Great move by DHL to buy those scrap pieces, paint them in Fedex colors and then start leaving them around the country at night in people's yards.

Bob Suchocki has the pictures to prove it.

Sorry, Bob, but your picture proves ONLY that it was there.
It doesn't prove that it FELL.

Could be a UPS plant.

I just had an overtime job at DHL in Paramus. I must say they have their communications system up to speed.

I wish we could find a picture of the Pilot's face after landing safely and seeing parts of the plane missing.

Tim Fleischer, Eyewitness News: "It ought to be a scary thought, thinking this fell from the sky.."
Suchocki: "Yeah, yeah. It looks light, but I am sure, you know, dropping from the sky it could have done some damage.

Another piece, even larger, five by eight feet long fell not far away. Nutley police rushed to the scene securing the area.

The piece came from a Federal Express cargo plane. Neighbors say the markings are clearly visible.

And an update from the Federal Aviation Administration: They are now saying the Fedex jet took off from Newark Liberty International Airport this morning bound for Oakland. It actually flew without the parts and landed safely.

According to the FAA, a total of four pieces came off the number two engine cowling as the plane took off from the airport.

Looks like part of the engine cowling on the tail of a DC-10.

The MD11 still flies pax, Finnair loves them and is trying to get every one they can, but most are being turned into cargo. I only flew it once, we had a 4 hour delay while we were on the plane, then an 11 hour flight.

But I really liked the DC-10, used to fly them on Contential and Hawaiian all the time.
